Beta Divx Codec available for PocketMVP
See original thread here:
http://corecodec.com/modules.php?op=...iewtopic&t=540
The download is here:
http://pocketmvp.topcat.hu/
I installed on my Axim and the results are great. I tried one of the sample videos before installing the codec and had over 1,500 dropped frames. After codec install had only 2 dropped frames. Speed is much improved. Give it a try!
The sample video I used was 320x240 24fps 512Kbit/s B-Frame VBR DivX 44Khz Stereo 128Kbit/s MP3. Very amazing speed increase with new codec!

What is different between this and the original codec?

These are the quoted changes from the original thread at corecodec.com
" this release doesn't reached the offical status yet (because the new ATI AHI optimalizations are not supported) i think it's still useful for many users. the major improvement is speed. the divx decoding (without displaying the frames) is almost two times faster on an 400Mhz xscale (the mips version is not much faster, because Pedro made quite good job earlier). there are some other nice features like b-frame support, new divx3 decoder (based on pocketmvp's divx5 decoder code. much faster), safe motion compensation (errors in movies won't cause crash), separation of highly optimized idct library (which can be used in other codecs), etc... the codec is compatible with earlier pocketmvp versions too. "
You will see a dramatic speed increase when you try this beta divx codec. I was amazed!

I have run into some problems when playing the bigger resolution files. I installed the codec on my version .8.100203 of PocketMVP and when i go to play the sample videos they have on their site PMVP loads the video up then just shuts down right before it is going to play and then makes my upper taskbar disappear so it requires me to restart. The sample video is the RL_HQ_640x352_1024_128. Is anyone else having this problem?
Also another thing. When i play the RL_MQB_320x240_512_128 video i am getting a lot of dropped frames even though it can't really see it. Is there something lets i need to do. Is there another divx codec that i am supposed to add before this one?
Thankz

I would not use RL_HQ_640x352_1024_128 as a sample video. It's not formatted properly for the Axim. I think that's for the new Toshiba with high resolution capability.
RL_MQB_320x240_512_128 should play on your device. It plays fine on my X5 Advanced. It should actually play better on yours. Is your processor set to maximum performance?

Does anyone here know if this will address the terrible lag that develops when watching movies encoded via Dr. Divx? While all of them play fine on a notebook or desktop, when played on my X5 Advanced they all develop a growing audio sync issue as the movie plays (i.e. - OK at the beginning of a movie and much worse by the end). Thanks.

I just installed the new PocketMVP which i didn't know was out and now it plays the 640x352 file. I have my x3i on auto and it was running at 200Mhz when playing the video and i got 1266 frames dropped. When i turned it to max performance it dropped 1261 frames so it might be the software performance wise. The video plays smooth though and i can't tell they are dropping so it really isn't a problem in my eyes but would be nice if the number was a lot lower. FYI, it says the avgerage frame rate is 15.63.
I am going to download the other 320x240 file that is made for landscape view and is said to run faster in it and see how much better it is, as well as perform a soft start.
EDIT: I performed the soft start and played the new movie and nothin changed. Had 1257 frame drops and frame rate average was 15.70. Anyone else out there with a X3i get these results?
Thankz

I installed the new codec and now the movies keep starting and stopping when played on my Axim. Unless there is something I am missing, this is a step backwards, not forward. Any ideas?

This "Addon" for PocketMVP is great!
The video-playback is so much smoother :)
