DVD to AVI - no compression

Hi,

Maybe a bit off-topic but I am counting on you video-wizkids to give me a few pointers.

I am playing around with DVD conversions to ppc format (divx) but I was wondering, how to convert to avi without compression.

The purpose would be to rip dvd files and make them avi so I can import them in any video editing tool like Adobe Premiere eg. Qualtity is most important, file size not!!! How would I go about to put these files on avi without compression to keep perfect video quality.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanx.

I use Smartripper to rip the VOB files from DVD. Then I use DVD2AVI to put the VOB files to AVI. Afterwhich you should be able to import into Premiere.

I tried with DVD2AVI but it does not seem to convert to an avi file but instead, make a short file, for frameserving purposes.

Any ideas?

I think a program called FlaskMpegDeCSS_0594.exe (from the DVD to Avi tutorial on this site would do what you are looking for. I have used it and it produces Avi files somewhere in the neighborhood of 1-3 gigs.

I am not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but I thought I would try to help.

EDITED: The link wasn't working. Try the tutorial at the top of the Multimedia section, it has a working link.

Thanx for the reply and the help! Size of the files does not matter, as long as I convert VOB files to AVI so I can import them easily in other programs, and that the qualtiy remains perfect, it will be used to edit and make films, montages, ...

Flask should be able to do this. I don't want divx or anything, just plain avi with maximum video quality!!

Yes, Flask is the way I know to get what you want. If you follow the instructions in DVD to AVI, you will get a ripped file which is not compressed. The size will depend on what you specify, for the Axim, it is usually 320 x 240 but practically you can keep it at full screen resulution as well if you want.

This will yield an uncompressed file at good quality (sound depending on your settings).

If you then later want to compress the AVI file, you use VDub or other tools to make the compression.

HTH.
