what headphones to get?

I want to get some headphones. I need them to be very small (maybe even ear bud type) because I plan to be having them on in class (so i can listen to music while i take notes) but also want some good quality.

It'll be used mainly for mp3's, but also some games and movies.

Can anybody recommend some good, discrete, and portable headphones?

thanks
-george

Since the AX(all versions that I'm aware of) has excellent sound quality thru the headphone jack, any decent pair of headphones will work. You could use one you already have or just pick-up a pair anywhere. They will all sound good on your AX.

Sony

Can't go wrong with the Sony MDR-EX71SL

Best sounding in the ear headphones I've ever had. Of course they are expensive ($59.99 at Ultimate Electronics) but I'm sure you can find them for a bargain somewhere online.

I'm no audiophile, but like hanna975 said, pretty much any set of headphones will sound good, so I opted for the following:

http://www.javoedge.com/simtrix/prod...ory=HEADPHONES

There's no beating the coolness of them. The other pair I use are always getting tangled up.

I am by no means an expert on the sounds of music as I normally just hear rythmn with a lot of noise. The only way I can understand the vocal of a sound track is with headphones.

Just purchased the Sony ex71sl in ear head phones and for me they are excellent. They sound good and they block out background noise. Have been using Sony MDR-NC5 when flying. My home tests revealed that the ex71 cancelled out background noise better. Can't wait for my next flight

Purchased at Circuit City for $49.99 + tax.

I received 1 h ago my new TDK CP100.
Give me a couple of days I'll come up with some sort of review.

nice, i think i'll go with this one.

bearcat, i thought about your suggestion for a bit but then realized that having background noise be cancelled out when i'm in class is a bad thing (still gotta listen to lecture somewhat)

thanks to everyone who responded!

I know you already made your decision, however, I've always been a fan of Panasonic headphones. They have a great bass sound to them and very clear for my purposes. I'm not sure how their earbuds sounds since I don't use them, but that's my personal preference.

i also suggest getting headphones with "silent caps" on them (like my sonys) so that people around you can't hear what you're listening to. some headphones leak noise very badly.

--basically the opposite of noise canceling. uh wait a sec, you're going to be listening to music in class?

The sonys earbuds i got are: MDR-E818LP

ten bucks at my university bookstore (I was desperate)

You want to listen to mp3s in class? I'd suggest you rethink your priorities, kiddo. How much tuition are you paying to sit in a classroom and listen to music? Seriously, education is an opportunity that a lot of folks don't have -- don't waste it.

Ditto here. I do like the sound quality of Panasonic headphones for their excellent bass response. The Shockwave EarClips listed on my sig below is what I prefer although I bought a couple of cheap (each priced @$9.99 CDN on discount [about $7.99 US]) pairs of headphones for use with my X5. The other one is a pair of Earbuds made by Maxell (EB-425). Albeit it has volume control, gold plated plug, and rather small form factor, the sound quality however is inferior to the former.

I just purchased a pair of the earbud style headphones from BestBuy. They were made by Panasonic and cost $9.95 (Cdn). What made me buy them was the fact they were equipped with a volume control. They work quite well for both mp3 files and for games.

also...when buying headphones (general advice), make sure the cord is relatively thick. i have owned a few sets that had cord close to 1mm thick, and eventually the connection inside was erratic or broken entirely. its possible the wire inside was just awful quality, but my current sonys are about 2mm thick, and i wouldn't settle for anything less.
