i just want to hear my music, is that so wrong?
Ok, I have seen a couple threads on this, but i cant find them again. I have a large CD collection, which, over the last year has morphed into a large WMA collection (20 Gb or so). I am running all dell stuff at home, 2.66 GHZ desktop, Truemobile WAP and the TM1180 CF card on my X5 advanced.

I read about the issue with mapped drives and the need for Resco FE. Got it today. I mapped to the "my music" folder on my PC and I was able to play my tunes, but only one at time. (Well, i connected to the music folder, not sure if it was acutally mapped, being very new at using Resco) I'm assuming that I should be able to open Media player and look under Local Content and see my music. Why can't I see anything that is not on the PDA/SD card? What am i doing wrong? Once I get over that hurdle, will I be able to set the player to randomly play tracks from the library the way the desktop version does? that's all I want.

Also, does the PPC version of WMP keep all the data on when a track was last played and number of plays? Just curious.

Try using PocketMusic.(Sorry, I don't have a link. You should be able to search for it though) PocketMusic see's the mapped drive and you should be able to shuffle, skip, previous and create playlists. There's a trial version for the paid one, but if you don't register. It will turn to the free version with a few less perks.

Make sure you actually mapped the PC's drive in Resco and you should be able to create playlists in WMP. Check the WiFi How-to linked from my signature for details on using Resco to map drives.

OK, checked and the folder was mapped. i have all my music in folders as per WMP by band then by album in subfolders. as a test, i put several files in one single folder w/no subfolders, and mapped that too. when i open a playlist in mobile WMP, it only gives me the choices of "all content", "my Documents", "Built-in storage", and "SD card" from which to add music.

In Resco Explorer, go to options -> add-ins and click "Show network as Network folder under My Device"

This allowed me to see the shared folder

Ya once you do what is in the reply above me you will be able to open WMP on your X5, don't be alarmed if it takes sometimes to open because it is now loading all your songs into the playlist. You show be able to goto playlist and see all your songs there now.

HighTymes is right, expect a long wait on loading your playlist. I only have around 1 Gb of music and it loads the playlist real slow, I couldn't imaging 20 Gb. You might want to stick to individual folders since you said you had them organized as such. Because if you load the whole 20Gb, you probably wont even feel like listening to music by the time it takes to load.

i tried to post last night but I guess it didnt take. you werent kidding when you said it might take a while. the first time I connected, it took the better part of an hour to get the playlist. after that though, it takes a few minutes (still a long wait). i might try divide the load among several share folders. not helping matters is the fact that i use WMAs which are larger than MP3s (aren't they?). some of the tracks I have are such that they take up about 1 Mb for each 1/2 min. figure that with the fact that i love the long Zeppelin/Pink Floyd/Rush rock epics (over 3000 songs, average size nearly 7Mb), and you can understand that they will cut out some times over the 11b wireless connection. i just ordered a 512Mb SD card, so i can take some tunes with me and not have to worry about that as much.

Anyway, thank you all for your assistance and advice. I look forward to leaning on you the next time i need some help.

Damn that is a loooongtime, lol. I have about a 3GBs of music, plus all the WMV videos WMP will load up, so probably about 5GB+ of stuff and it takes about a 1-2mins and about 10 seconds when i hit playlist for the stuff to show up.

If you have videos you might want to not share them because if you aren't going to play them then it is just making your wait even longer.

You shouldn't have any cutouts when playing the songs even on 11b because you are not where reaching the limit of it even if your MP3s are 512kb/sec. With my X3i i only get 2mb/sec out of the 11b and i can play the songs flawlessly even when i have a really crappy connection(1/4 strength). I can even stream my Live TV on that signal without any buffer problems.

Are you browsing the web while you are streaming the MP3s? If so then that is probably why you get cut outs because your CPU power is going to load the web page so WMP shalls for a sec.

the cutouts may have to do with the large folder size, updating the playlist all the time, no? my PPC playlist was over 700K. I will try to fool with it over the weekend, if I get a little time.

Once you pick a song no other activity should be going on in WMP to take up CPU power or bandwidth unless you open the playlist again to check out som songs, then your song will probably cut out.
