There is a demo version available. Download it and give it a whirl. It will allow you to make a 5 minute demo, long enough to give you an idea how it works. I thought is was a fantastic one-step solution. Next time I get some extra cash, that is what I'm getting.

I would love to sell my license of DVD-to-PPC to you if your interested.

I bought this thing used it once, but I simply don't have the patience to wait hours for to finish a movie. As far as quality, it was okay.

I'm using to PocketDivxdecoder right now (free), with Betaplayer (free), and the quality is superb! PocketDivxdecoder takes about 30-45 minutes to finish a full lenght movie, as oppose to hours...

THAT IS INCREDIBLE! I agree with Unwired that it does take hours to process a movie on Pocket-DVD Studio. I haven't used his solution, but MAN 30-45 minutes for an entire movie? That is almost unbelievable. I mean if that's what he gets, WOW. Way cool! I would think that at that speed though, something, if not quality, would have to give.

quality is superb, as I mentioned earlier! I know it's nuts! I convert Master and Commander from opening credits to end credits in less than hour...

The only thing I should mentioned is get at least 256MB SD (I recommend 512MB). With the settings I use, my movies always comes in borderline of 240+ or so...

The best ones to decode are kids movies (Nemo, Ice Age, etc.), they're short, so you can have full quality. It's great going around "showing off" my PPC with my friends and family. It's always leaves them in awe...

w00t!

Question -- does PocketDivXEncoder also handle ripping the movies from the DVD, or do you have to use another program from that?

If you have to use another program, what does everyone use?

Also, how do you handle DVDs with multiple episodes on them? I know I've had problems ripping those before.

You have to use another program for that - I use either smartripper or dvd decrypter depending on what mood I'm in - both can handle anything you throw at them. having encoded the whole of my 24 and west wing DVD collections to xvid, they can certainly handle multiple episodes.

what you need to do is use dvd decrypter in "IFO" mode (Mode -> IFO).

(smartripper can do this too - can't remember the name of the option, think it's "film mode"). Select the PGC that you want (it's usually fairly obvious which ones the episodes are from the lengths of the PGC), then select a location for the file to be saved to, then click the big button to begin decryption.

If the DVD has multiple soundtracks, it helps if you click on to the "Stream Processing" tab and only select the one that you want (0x80 is the default soundtrack for almost all DVDs) - saves hard drive space if nothing else. You can also remove unwanted subtitle streams etc at this point.

Then once all that is done, you should have one .vob file to feed into pocket divx encoder :) Repeat for each episode (usually easier to rip them all then encode them all as a batch after which i believe you can do with pdxe)

Well, if you have to do all those extra steps, I would be willing to bet it takes longer than 30-45 minutes from start to finished useable product.

The advantage of Pocket-DVD Studio for noobs like me is that we can set it up to rip overnight and be gtg the next day. Without having to go nuts trying to make all those other apps work.

As for selling your license, don't they register it to your username or something? I was going to buy it but have held off atm due to finances. Depending on what you want for the license and the limits involved, I might be interested, Unwired.

On the other hand, since you have had good luck with the freebie stuff, I'll give it a go and see what happens.

Thanks for the tip!

Well, i've given a very detailed explanation of all the extra steps there - it's not really complicated at all, easy once you've done it once.

I just tried downloading the smartripper from their website but the instructions after it is downloaded is in German. Is there any way I can get them in English?

Hey Guys,

I was just wondering - I've heard that the Ax X5 has a few troubles with SD cards over 256Mb in size. Is this right or is this wrong??

The problems seem to be related to the manufacturers of the cards. There have been very few, if any, problems reported of any size SD card that has been manufactured in Japan.

Stay away from ones made in China...
