Help!!

I followed your instructions exactly and it all went well until I got to the select codec button under video. When I hit the drop down box I could not find Divx 5.0.3 . There were plenty of other options but not the Divx. Is it because I have not downloaded the Divx file yet?? I double checked and I did download the correct file (the second time). I stopped because I didn't want to waste a couple of hours and not get the results everyone else is raving about.

You have to install the Divx 5.0.3 codec first. Then you'll see it in the drop down box. The stuff in there now is what you currently have loaded on you computer.

Fibrizo - thanks for the guide. I have spent most of the weekend putting my dvd's onto flash cards.

I would like to add the following.

If you are having problems with Flashmpeg (keeps crashing whilst opening the file) The get a copy of dvd decoder (link already in this thread somewhere) and copy the dvd to your local drive then try and it should work.

A full feature film with stero sound is between 170mb and 220mb the way i do it. If you took stero off then it would drop more.

Hi :)
Please let me know which version of Flask I should download 6 or 7 Beta?
I had tried the one provided in the guide but, I couldn't get it to work. It kept crashing over & over. (this, of course, is probably because I was trying to do this on one of my older computers with Windows ME installed)...now I'm going to try it on my Windows XP computer but I want to make sure I download the right Flask version.

Also, on my Windows ME computer, I tried to remove Flask but wasn't able to. Does anyone know how to remove this? It's not showing up in the Add/Remove Programs (?). Maybe just a System Restore will take care of it (?).

THANKS!!

I am using the program to back up DVD to CDR.
Is there anyway to limit the file size to 650MB, so I can write it onto CDRs.

e.g. If the file is to be more than 650MB, say 1 Gig, can I flask the DVD to two files with size smaller than 650MB instead of one big 1 gig file.

thanks:crooked:

What about PAL Dvd's?

Do I have to change the framerate to 25 fps for a Pal-dvd?

Or do I stick to the 23.976 fps if Progressive, and 29.97 if Interlaced, regardless if the source is Pal or Ntsc??

Any help welcome.

TIA!

Question

HELP!!!

I have just bought a DVD rom drive to take advantage of this guide. All seems to go well , but when I extract the Film/Program from th DVD to hard disk it seems to take forever! I recently was extracting a 3 hour Comedy series and after 45mins the progress bar showed "5 percent done" with an estimated 13 hours to go! I know it takes a while, but this seems ridiculous!

So, how long are other people having to wait for this process to do? I have a 1800 Athlon XP processor and 256mb Ram. Surely somethings gone wrong? Help much appreciated

Thanks Scott

Oops! I have answered my own question! I left flask running for 2 hours and it was only up to 13 percent for a half hour program, I let it carry on and shortly after it finished! So, not so bad as I thought.

When I re encoded it using virtual dub the resulting file (Sound: 44100, 16bit Stereo) came out as 180mb! So I re encoded it but this time with 22000 32bit mono and the file was a much more manageable 36 mb. Didnt realise lower sound quality would affect the size so much.

Also, as I am prfoundly deaf, I was pleased to see the Subtitles were clear and pretty easy to read (128 kb/s in Virtual dub)!

So, a big thank you to Fibrizo, your work on this forum is much appreciated, and your guides are easy to follow too.

Glad I didnt buy a Palm in the end!

If anyone's interested in yet another ripping tool, I found a great one yesterday called DVDx which will rip the DVD and encode directly to .avi and supports divx encoding, multiple passes, and Lame MP3 audio encoding as well, which obviously eliminates the need to spend several GB's of HDD space. In the same amount of time it takes to normally do the encoding process anyway, you can rip the DVD, resize it if you want, and divx/mp3 encode the whole thing in one step. All that's left is running it through VirtualDub for rotating and resizing, if you didn't resize with DVDx, and perhaps reducing the audio quality.

ps: If the DVDx site is busy/down (I'm told it's because the program has become rather popular suddenly) try searching for 'DVDx_2_2_setup.exe' on filemirrors.com or some other mirror site.

Not sure what I am doing wrong, when I go to run "player" and hit run, should I be able to see the movie I am converting or should I just see the slider, all I see is the slider. I went through the whole process and did not see the movie the first time I went to the player and thought that was just part of the process. but the second time I got nothing as well. Not sure what I am doing wrong. ANy suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

About DVDx. How do you make a multipass. It tells me that " Size splitting is not possible in multi pass.
Anybody tried it. It seems to be much more easy to use.
Please tell about your experience with it.
