PROBLEM FINDING DIVX OPTION

Fibrizo,

Everything was going great...perfect in fact, until I got to the "select codec" button under video and there was no option for Divx in the compressor drop down. It had some other selections, but no option for Divx.

What happened - How can I get the divx option?

Thanks for the help!:rolling:

When I get to the part where I 'select play and make sure it looks good', it is pixely and more like gobbly-gook. The picture has some resemblence to the actual movie. I ran through the rest of the steps, started the actual rip and then stopped it after a minute. Then I went and played the new file - it was pixely and garbled.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Everything worked great. It ripped the DVD and encoded it. It is now an AVI file, but when I try to encode it using WM encoder 9 or watch it using Divx player it says there is an error "streamsourcefilter seek from begining" But I KNOW that I told it to "seek first" while encoding. I have done it twice with the same result. Can anyone help?

Fibrizo:
Great guide, thanks!!! Before I found your guide I had audio sync problems (I think XMPEG was the cause) now the audio and video sync are perfect.

django:
You have to install Divx codec first. Go to http://download.divx.com/divx/ for the Divx 5 free standard codec (don't get free pro codec because it has adware). Download and install the codec then you should see Divx in the list of choices.

A few more tips I just noticed today:

Where several of us were noticing audio sync issues using the Fraunhofer MP3 codec in mono, I originally said that using the Lame codec in stereo fixed it. Today I played around with using Lame in mono, and so far everything is still staying in sync. This is nice for smaller files.

Also, landscape view seems to be able to deal with 24 fps just fine, at least it does with my 400MHz, but 30 fps gets jerky. Rather than taking a 30 fps DVD and decimating it to 15 fps, use VirtualDub's Inverse Telesine setting (also found on the Frame Rate dialog) which reconstructs a video into its original 24 fps format. If you're encoding for portrait view, this step (same with decimation) is optional - portrait can deal with 30 fps with no problem.

Another Method...

The website Doom9 is all about ripping DVDs. I've ripped one DVD with it (I'm a newb at it) so I don't know if thier method is better or worse. They have guides for DivX3, DivX5, and XviD, and different methods for all of those. I ripped the Lord of the Rings for DivX5 with a guide from that site and it looks good. All the guides walk you through very carefully including the pre-ripping config, and they have screenshots with every step. Again, I don't know how thier method compares, I just wanted to let everybody know about this source.

When I try and download the FlaskMpeg software I get a leech.htm file that says I am trying to get the download from the back door. Anyone else have this problem? I am trying DVDX, but I am having problems with the audio working on the PPC after I encode with Vitualdub's MP3 encoder. Actually Pocket MVP gives an audio error message and then it locks up. I tried it with the lame mp3 setting but vitual dub does not have the lame mp3 setting so that could be the problem. I am trying it now with PCM setting. Anyway just curious about how to get the FlaskMpeg DeCSS software. Thanks for your help.

Here's another tip for those using the DVD2AVI method:

If you want to have normal NTSC framerates, instead of taking the original 30fps and either decimating it to 15fps in VirtualDub or using VirtualDub's Inverse Telecine to attempt to return it to NTSC 23.976fps, in DVD2AVI check Video -> Field Operation -> Force FILM which will also perform the Inverse Telecine, but from the source .vob instead of VirtualDub trying to figure it out from an .avi source.

Question Question ?

I got to point where in the video box I am to select "Divx 5.0.3" in the "Compressor" box, but I don't see that selection in the drop down box. What do I do from here. Also is there an english text version of this software?

If you don't see DivX 5.0.x or Lame MP3 or any other codec we discuss, that means you don't have it/them installed on your system.

DivX is at http://www.divx.com just get the basic free version, it's all you need for Pocket PC encoding.

Is there an english language version of what software? Everything in the basic list (DivX, VirtualDub, etc.) are all english by default, unless you downloaded a language pack or a different language version.

Cool DIVX Movie

I have just finished converting a dvd movie to divx. The file size is 1.3GB. How do I reduce this down to the 150-250 Mb I have been reading about in the post and replies in this forum?
