hi all, i was wondering if anybody converted a DVD to a WMA for PPC's, and if anyone can host those vids somewhere so we can share.
P.S: im not sure if this is legal or not... so please let me know:crooked:

Of course it's not legal. sharing copyrighted material is NEVER legal, despite what people sometimes think.
Doing what you like with copyrighted material you've bought (for e.g. on DVD) is morally legal :D and covered under fair use in my eyes (although in some areas of the world - including the US - it is technically illegal, noone is going to have any problem with you transfering your own DVDs to watch on your own PDA).
If you want to watch DVDs on your PDA, buy 'em and convert 'em :)
but from the tutorial i read on PPC its a waste of 4-5 hours just converting from DVD to mpg and from mpg to WMV if ya kno wat i mean
KLappDOgg u can share ur ideas with me :D

as kellis mentions - don't bother doing that, simply rip the DVD to your hard drive then use PocketDivxEncoder to encode to xvid with bframes and you'll be lovely :) full thing done in around an hour.

file sharing of copyrighted files is bad and naughty!! don't do it! ;)
There are tons of "old" movies that can be legaly hosted. If i recall, most of the john wayne movies are now public domain and are even sold on dvds without copy right protection. I read about this in wired news a way back. SO if you find out movies are public domain, and convert them, heck i might host them myself.
I personally use Dr. Divx for encoding a dvd rip for use on my ppc. I can take a full length movie and squash it down to under 150mb, so I am sure an hour episode could go under 128mb. IMO it may be worth the $100 for a 256mb card though.
the quality is awesome. just go into dr divx and open the file you want then it asks what type of encoding and it has home theatre etc... you will notice at the bottom it has handheld! and that works wonders and only about a half hour to encode
I've been doing encoding for a year now, starting with DUP-DVD, which took up to 18 hours to make an mpeg. Then, I encoded with Windows Media Encoder. Yeesh!!
A year makes a difference!! Now, I encode with either pocket DivX or Pocket-DVD Studio then watch with BetaPlayer (.04 for now). These last programs work fantastic!!! Read the Pocket-DVD tutorial on encoding settings. Works great on my Axim5--throw in XCPUscaler to up the cpu speed and even heavy action scenes are fantastic!! Happy Encoding from Texas!
