I was just looking around for the best way to play "my own dvds" on my Axim and the best/fastest way to convert them. Any help? It seems a little confusing. I have tried to read all the posts, but there is sooooo much.

Yup... smartripper or dvd decrypter -- both of these will let you rip your dvds to your hard drive -- then pocket divx encoder to encode from these rips to a format your pocket pc can play.

i just listed two in the post previous to yours... either smartripper or dvd decrypter, then pocket divx encoder to encode.... all these three are free.

I use DVD Shrink 3.1, it lets you copy all menues and audio. I select the main title (the actual movie) and only one audio format (the highest one). I then rip that to the Harddrive. WHen that is done I rename it to an .mpg file. (the latgest .vob file is the one you want to convert to mpg)Run it through PocketDivXEncoder and you have yourself a great movie that will run best with betaplayer.
These are all free programs, or at least were when I got them. If you want more detailed instructions with pics I can post them.

I'll post a way how to put a DVD on a PDA in about 20 minutes. I'm actually doing that now, so I have to wait until I can start over to take pictures of it. Estiamte it to be done in about an hour. So you have an idea of what you need, get these:
DVD Shrink
Pocket DivX Encoder
Beta Player
You will need all of those for the tutorial.

1# dvd ripper is a free program for a trial period but i think then you have to buy it. I tried it and didnt really like. You should just get DVD to POCKET PC. It is very simple to you. It is a one step transcoding tool. I personally only have because it only takes one step, but i know how to use multiple free ware programs. Takes longer to do but it is FREE. Try looking at www.doom9.org for free ware video editing and burning software!!!:D

Pocket DivX encodes vob files and such? I could only get those programs to produce vob and ifo files.

I finally finished the tutorial. You can find it here : https://home.comcast.net/~cjradek/dvd_to_pocketpc.htm It is my first real tutorial, so feel free to email suggestions or criticism at cjradek@yahoo.com, or post it on the main forum on my site. Hope it helps, and I used all freeware, no costs!
