whats the difference in xvid?
i just tried encoding the same thing in regular divx 5.11, and xvid codecs, and there was virtually no difference in quality when played on the corecodec new beta player. xvid was slightly smaller in file size. can anyone explaine the difference?

divx and xvid are both implementations of MPEG 4... xvid is open source, generally considered superior quality per bitrate, when compared with divx. divx is a commercial product, and often comes with spyware if you download it off their website.
basically -- xvid good, divx bad ![]()

how much superior is the quality per bitrate in xvid? i cant tell the difference when viewed on an axim's screen. the one difference i can tell is that xvid takes FAR FAR longer to encode. i got rid of the spyware associated with divx. theres ways around it.

hmmm, the xvid taking longer to encode is a quirk of pocket divx encoder i think, generally it doesn't take that much longer.
but, realistically, if divx works for you then use it - if you can't see the difference then that's what matters at the end of the day ![]() i know there are ways around the spyware, however i refuse to use software that has such things in it, regardless, especially when there are tangibly better open source alternatives as is the case with xvid. m.
