Please Post your Settings for PocketDivxEncoder

I was wondering if it would be possible for anyone to post their exact settings that you use on PocketDivxEncoder to make a nice quality ppc movie, which is under 256 mb. Perhaps you could just post a screenshot of the settings for the program from your desktop pc. Or just put up a little mini tutorial, which indicates the settings that work best. I know there are some experts out there that can make these movies look great using the PocketDivxEncoder. Please share the settings that you use on the program, so we can all benefit. It's difficult for newbees to know which settings to configure in order to make a good looking ppc divx movie.

Thanks in advance! :D

I use special settings for every movie based on the length and the available memory. For Example:
I always use:
B-Frames
VHQ
2-pass encoding
24 or 25 fps (your choice)
320x240

For Audio:
44100Hz
64kbps
Mono
(if more space is available stereo/128kbps)

Than i calculate the video data rate:
Time of the Video: for Example 1h30
Memory I would like to use or memory which is free: 128mb
1h=60min 60min+30min=90min
90min x 60=5400sec
128mb x 1024=131072kb
131072kb x 8=1048576kbit
1048576kbit / 5400sec = 194 kbps

If won't like to calculate the bitrate exactly your choice should be between 190 and 250kbps

Don't forget to always use Betaplayer too, especially with B-frames.

Great, thanks for taking the time to post the settings. I'm looking forward to testing out those configurations. Does anyone else have any different settings they would like to contribute?

for me:
256kbps video, 96kbps audio, ogg vorbis, original audio (so it can preserve, well, for me);
xvid, b-frames, 320x240, 24fps, 2-pass, VHQ mode, that's about it ;)

I'm new to this and have been playing around with PocketDivxEncoder.

Lets say I have a DIVX movie/700mb/640x480/excellent dvd like quality

Would those previous posted settings be ok for making it
axim friendly??? I really want to preserve quality.

I'm also confused with the different PDA options they show.
Should I choose the ipaq style??

Thanks

I have encoded a Matrix 1 DVD copy with my settings and it works perfect. And yes you should choose the ipaq style and prerotate (horizontal view)

XSTREAM,

Ok, I'm encoding a movie as we speak with your settings.
I set the audio to 128/stereo since I have the space. I'll let you know how it goes. THANKS AGAIN!

XSTREAM,

The movie looks GREAT, but the sound is very low. I have
the speaker volume on high, also volume is set to high in beta player.

Any suggestions????

NOTE: The speaker volume works fine with other videos and mp3's.

Thanks in advance!

There's an option in PocketDivxEncoder to enhance the volume, if I remeber right it is called sound.
I usually increase it at least 30%, but really depends on the source.

My settings:
Constant:
VHQ
B-Frames
Xvid
2-Pass
Variabel:
Sound and Bitrate

Biggs,

That solved my problem 100% I set the sound up to +50%.
It's perfect now. I used all your settings except for XVID, all looks normal on the movie. What does Xvid do??

A big thanks to everyone, I'll be encoding movies all week :D

Xvid is an other video codec, you can use it instead of DivX

Glad that helped you,
xvid gives me sligthly better quality at lower bitrates, but conversion lasts longer.

Thanks to all who have posted to this thread.

I just received an X30H, which is my first pda. The myriad of program choices for getting video to ppc is mind boggling. But, thanks to all here who posted settings for PDXE.

I was successfully able to encode a movie that looks and sounds good for my upcoming trip using PDXE and settings provided here.

I will be trying other methods to see which I find the best option for me, but I needed something I could try that was known to work, and I found that here. :approve:

Cropping

Has anyone tried cropping with Pocket Divx Encoder? Everytime I crop the black borders the final result always has the top cut off a the top of the movie and the bottom with some black, as if the offset settings changed before encoding. I'm assuming it is a bug in the program, anyone else experience this?
