Hmm WMP has disappeared

This seems pretty weird to me - I can't figure it out.
I can't start Windows Media Player on my X5. It has always worked in the past, but recently, it has refused to run.

When I go to the start menu and tap on the icon, the screen flickers for an instant like it is about to start, but goes back to how it was before. The player doesn't come on the screen, nothing is played.

I get the same results if I try to run a WMA file or launch it from the "home" menu.

Any Ideas?

Thanks!

You have somehow lost the default skin for WMP, so it can't launch. Not the image files, they're not lost, but the pointer file is most likely gone. Look in \Program Files\Windows Media Player for default.skn (though the Microsoft File Explorer of course won't show you the .skn extension). If it's gone, just create a new one. It's a plaintext file containing just this:

20#\Windows\wmp85default.skn

You can even use Pocket Word if you like. Choose Tools | Save Document As... then choose Plain Text. Find the file using a proper explorer (Resco, FtpView, TotalCommander, whatever you like) and change the .txt extension to .skn. Then move it to the folder I mentioned in \Program Files. That's it.

If that's not the problem, perhaps check Microsoft's PPC site for Windows Media Skin Chooser. That's been known to repair the problem you're having too.
