It appears this is the easiest Free way to do this. I have finished encoding Return of the King extended edition, and I get my X50v tomorrow.....

We will see how it works on it.

I tried this and the DVD shrink worked fine. WME seemed to work fine. The input and output monitor looked great. When it go through the finished file was only 4k and would not play. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
John

I have ripped a DVD to my hard drive using the method above (DVDShrink).

I have used WME to encode/convert the VOB to a WMV. The video is spectacular, but I get no audio when played on my Axim X5 (WMP 8.5). The WMV, when played on my PC (WMP10), DOES have audio.

It appears that is because I used WME 9 to encode/convert and the audio codec is now WMA 9, but the Axim only has WMP 8.5 because it has Pocket PC 2002 Premium. If this is truly the problem, what are my options? Can I change the audio codec WME 9 uses or do I have to go to WME 7.1?

Or if someone has a different idea, please let me know.

Thanks.

I had this problem too mate....just change the settings for audio to custom and select a mono one instead of stereo..i use 20kbps/22khz/mono and it plays audio fine now but you can use any as long as its mono.

I tried using this method but keep getting a 4k file that is unplayable. The output file looks fine while it is encoding.

WME doesn't recognize VOB files. I take it that this is because the correct codecs are not installed. Exactly which ones does it need?

OK--WME did not recognize my VOB files because I was ripping them with DVD Decrypter in IFO or ISO mode. When I rip in File mode and rename the resulting file with an MPG extension, everything works fine. Yeeha!

Just a thought on this issue...

Seems like every DVD -> PPC guide I've read on this site doesn't properly deal with correcting for anamorphic widescreen DVDs. If you follow the guides, you'll end up encoding black bars with your video and not correcting for anamorphic aspect.

OK I am having some serious issues with all this. First I will start with my system and software:

pentium 4 3.2G processor
1G Ram
Windows XP Media Center Edition
DVDSrink 3.2
Windows Media Player 10

I have encoded movies before without problem, but now when I rip the DVD using DVDSrink it appears to work fine, when I go to use WME it either freezes or returns an error and closes WME. I am not sure why this is happening or what to do to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

dunno if you still have this problem - but i have it with my windows media player and can only open

a) one file at a time in WMP
b) from the open menu in WMP

otherwise i get the error report message

Also it would be optimal if you do not use any compression in DVD Shrink, unless of course you have a FAT32 file system and cannot create files larger than 4GB. This will allow WME to make the highest quality file possible.
That must be my problem, I keep getting a "DVDShrink has encountered a problem and cannot continue" error when I'm at about 93% to 96% of my rip. The VOB files produced are always 3.99GB from videos around 4.7GB. If the FAT32 file system is the problem, how do I set DVDShrink to compress to under 4.0GB?
Thanks!!!

OK, answered my own question - it's a matter of using the slide bar and adjusting the (compression) length of the conversion to below 3.99 GB.
However, PocketDivXEncoder_0.3.50.exe tells me it's going to take 421+ hours to encode.....
Uhh, whats that all about? That's like 17 days!?!?!?
