i have the same problem, i followed all the steps on the manual and I have two possible problems:

- the movie starts, gives a black screen and returns to the start/prgram files screen

-i get a black screen and only the sound (after clicking on some icons on the bottom of the program)

Since there are quite a lot of people having troubles with reencoding a movie and playing on the pda, maybe we should make a special Thread and a manual which is more in detail, with screenshots, also if we have to change anything in the options of the divx player

This would be greatly appreciated by everyone on this board, including me, because I am getting quite desperate, been trying for over a week now to play a movie and no succes.

I resorted to the Windows Media Encoder 9, I reencoded a full movie, took twice the time as Virtual Dub, only to end up with a movie that looks more like a slide show than a flick, framerate 1fp/s or something

Another test video is available here.

Note: When I first posted this video, I was so excited showing the shuttle launch on my new Axim to friends and coworkers. Now it hurts a bit to see Columbia's last ride to orbit.

ok, when i capture the movie, i capture it at 29fps, in virtualdub, i saw under video /frame rate i could change the fps, do you think this is why i get no video, cause its not changing it, cause i here ppc only supports up to 15fps.....let me try...will get back to guys soon..

So the test file work, would those who have succes in encoding these movies please give me all the settings that were used...

I understand now that since the test.avi played well, there is no problem with the player on my ppc, but with my encoding settings, I used all the steps in the manual though found on this site, except for the 2-pass though, because when I try to use this method with the 2 jobs pending and then clicking start, I get an error message.

Tonight i will try again and post the exact error msg, but I don't think that when using the 1-pass method, this is the reason why MVP crashes on the file or only the audio would play.

sounds like a compressor error or a corrupt AVI file (frame) which means it might play ok, but reencoding might be a problem.
