real player: streaming audio problem
since I have several internet radios are ONLY in real format...
but I found 2 problems
1. when connected to wifi, real is never getting connected successfully (due to udp issue)
2. when using bt with n-gage to GPRS, the connection gets killed about 20 minutes when playing streaming audio with real

real player for pocket PC is TERRIBLE. I've never got it working, and most other people who've tried haven't either -- you're lucky in that you've even got some sound out of it at some point.

unfortunately, my only advice is to say forget it, it doesn't work. hopefully real will one day fix it, but I don't hold out much hope.

Actually RealPlayer for Pocket PC 1.1 Preview Release with RealVideo 9 support seems to work allot better Mobile Real Player See Images. We have had some pretty good results with encoding with real format available in the download section of PPCVIDZ But I agree they still got aways to go.

they've always been my least favourite on the PC too - the way real player tries to take over your entire system more violently than pretty much any other legal software out there really annoys me - especially the fact that there is no way at all of disabling that evil message centre thing from running in the background the entire time, no matter how hard you try.

i use real-alternative on the PC now though - much better

I have installed the "RealPlayer for Pocket PC 1.1 Preview Release" thing. I had no problems installing but I cannot connect it to any stream of the ones that I use! I always get this message: "Incorrect or malformed protocol". All this links work perfect in Real Player 8 Plus that is the one that I use in my desktop PC.

2 of the links that I have tried are:

pnm://a769.l1058031084.c10580.e.lr.akamaistream.net/live/D/769/10580/v0001/reflector:33253

and

pnm://a1614.v105801.c10580.g.vr.akamaistream.net/ondemand/7/1614/10580/3df7051d/caracol.download.akamai.com/10580/radiocaracol/CO/caracol/04abr27-sbo1310.rm

Does anybody know what is wrong here? When I follow this instructions that are in Realnetworks page I can access their lame content that is displayed in PIE, but I need to access my own streaming links that are not pressent in their database. Can it be something in the Pocket Real Player settings? I have selected 802.11b and the correct bandwidth, but I have not checked "Use RTSP Proxy". Here are the instructions:

TO ACCESS STREAMING MEDIA VIA THE MOBILE MEDIA GUIDE (Pocket PC 2002 required):

1. Select RealPlayer from the Start menu to launch the RealPlayer.
2. On the task bar at the bottom of the screen, tap on the Real icon.
3. A Web page will open, providing options to view content selections from four categories: Sports, Entertainment, News and Downloads.
4. Tap on the icon next to your desired category.
5. This will trigger a data call* (You will need a network connection to access these pages. An 802.11b or wireless data connection such a GPRS or 1XRTT is required.)
6. Select the desired link from the list of streaming and downloadable content.
7. The selected clip will begin to play in the RealPlayer.

Damn, this sucks. look here (taken from the support pages of Realnetworks, I guess this answers WHY I cannot connect to this kind of stream. Pocket PC Real Player REALLY SUCKS, I wished there was another app that could play this kind of stream :

Question:
What types of streaming content is RealOne Mobile Player for Pocket PC designed to support?

Answer:
This document applies to:

- RealOne Mobile Player for Pocket PC

Streaming for RealOne Mobile Player for Pocket PC was designed for the RealOne Player content guide. To access the content guide in RealOne Player, click the RealOne icon to the right of "Options."

RealOne Mobile Player for Pocket PC supports streaming content that meets the following guidelines:

- Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 Operating System
- 200 kbps maximum bitrate (may vary depending on network conditions)
- RTSP via UDP transport protocol
- Streaming File types .RM or .RAM
- G2 or later Video Codec (Includes RV8)
- G2 or later Audio Codec (Includes RA8 up to 96 kbps; Excludes ATRAC3) and Sipro Audio Codec
- Recommended FrameRate 10-15 fps with FrameSize approaching 320x240*

* In general, the lower the FrameRate, the higher the FrameSize can be, and vice-versa.

Examples:
4-5 fps FrameRate at 640x480 FrameSize
10-15 fps FrameRate at 320x240 FrameSize
20-24 fps FrameRate at 160x120 (Double-Sized) FrameSize

Streaming is not supported for the following content:

- Microsoft Pocket PC 2000 Operating System
- Bitrates higher than 200 kbps
- Protocols other than RTSP via UDP (for example HTTP, PNM, or TCP)
- Javascript, Redirects, Surestream, or Browser-Embedded Streams
- Secured Content Streams
- Bluetooth
- Wireless Network Connections
- Any Codecs older than G2 or non-Sipro; ATRAC3
- Any Streaming File type that is not a .RM or .RAM

That's a bit of a lie.
As long as your PPC is in a DMZ, it should work.
You might find that your router allows for this, like mine does.

Media Player can't be used to access RealAudio streams, though.
