you've moved the sliders for Video and Audio right?

If you look at the bottom of the PDXE screen it shows you the video encoding speed (200 kbps, etc... ) and the audio sampling rate. If you make the settings lower you should definately be able to make the file smaller than 200 MB. You should see the estimated size of file change when you change the sliders. Of course, it depends on the length of film.

I don't see anything at the bottom that says video encoding speed. I have size and bitrate. Neither appears to be measured in kbps. hmmmmm.

yes, you are correct. Sorry if I confused you.
The bottom shows
Video
---------
Size: should be 320x240 probably
Bitrate: This is the one that you vary with the "Video Quality" slider
Audio
-----
Frequency:
Mono/Stereo
Sampling rate in kbps

I usually set the Audio to 44.1kHz, mono, 64 kbps. Then I move the video slider that adjusts the bitrate to a size that I can fit on a 256MB card, but I try to stay with a bitrate around 200.

Does bitrate translate into MB???? I have a 256MB card but want to fit more then just one file on it. I think I am getting the hang of it though. Not sure what all the bells and wistles do. This thing should come with a manual.

well, higher bitrate = larger final file, but I'm not sure what the ratio is. I've read that the main culprit to large size is audio. I haven't had a chance to play with the settings too much, as the sampling setting I gave you have worked well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! One thing I always have to do is push the slider for sound to at least 60%. This is supposed to help increase the sound, as the final movie with slider set to 0% (0% is equal to no sound boost) is too low. I haven't had a chance to play with it to see if I can tell any difference between say 60% and 100%, and to see if there is any distortion. But, since I use headphones because the X30 speaker sucks, it's not that big of a deal.

yeah, a manual would be helpful, but then again, it's free.

I think you will find that for a movie, it will be hard to fit more than 1 on a 256 MB card, and still be able to watch it (meaning the quality will be poor). But if you have sitcom episodes or something, then you'll be fine. If you do find settings that work for you that result in small size, please post them back here. I'd like to find some alternate settings myself.

Good luck.
