DVD to PPC and mDVD Requirements
I can't seem to find a great deal of info on DVD to PPC, or at least enough to answer my questions.
I downloaded a trial of mDVD, and it indicated that I needed a DVD viewing application installed. It suggested PowerDVD. I haven't actually tried mDVD yet, but I don't suppose Windows Media Player is considered usable for this purpose? At any rate, this would significantly increase the cost of using mDVD, as it costs 30 or 40 bucks to get PowerDVD. Is there a free alternative? Also, does DVD to PPC require a DVD viewing application? Though it costs several times more than mDVD, if it doesn't require an expensive DVD player installed, it would end up being cheaper than mDVD for me. Gracias.

I've tried "DVD to Pocket PC 1.2.3" and "DVD-to-Pocket PC" but the output of these don't work at all for me in Windows Media Player. I've tried Pocket DivX player and that didn't work either. So far, the only successful method for me is using the following software in the following order: 1) "Nero Recode" to convert the movie into MPEG4 format. 2) "WinMPG Video Convert" to convert MPEG4 to AVI. 3) "Windows Media Encoder" to convert the AVI to WMV and also resize the video to Pocket PC standard. The audio/video quality of movies converted this way are excellent. It is a pain-in-the-ass and it takes a long time to process, but in the end, the quality is definitely rewarding. And that's watching it with the default Windows Media Player that comes with WM 2003 SE.

I was a Beta tester for mDVD, and although it recommends having PowerDVD for a DVD viewing software, any DVD software will work. It only needs it for the codecs. If you are ripping a DVD, meaning you have a DVD Rom or DVD writer, chances are that it came with DVD playing software so you should be good to go.

Trial Has Expired! Ugh!
Good answers. For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that FAQ wasn't present a month or so ago when I first downloaded the trial.
![]() At any rate, now I've got another problem. I just spent half an hour downloading and installing all the required codecs, and when I tried to run mDVD, I get an error stating that my 2 day trial is up! Ahhgg! I haven't even used it yet! Big D, I can't find a contact method on their web site. Can you point me to a phone number or an email address? Gracias.

Thanks.
Super. I posted a message last night, right after I posted this message. I had earlier assumed that I needed to register or something to post a message, but then noticed a few "Guest" postings, and decided to take a successful stab at posting.
Thanks again. | |||
