What FPS setting after Windows Media Encoder?
Axim X5 advanced with 512 SD

I've tried 15 and 20. Wasn't happy with either. 15 was too slow (too many dropped frames) and 20 seemed to stress the units capabilities, because it was very jumpy during action scenes. I'd like smooth video, I know there is going to be dropped frames after compression with WME, but I'd like to get it to a point where they aren't noticed. What settings are you using?

i always use 24fps or 30 fps. try installing betaplayer and then installing pocketdivxencoder to your PC and use that to compress your videos to divx. You may get better performance as betaplayer is well known for that. You have a x5 so it isn't the best media player so you may have to lower the video bitrate too.

What are the specific shortcomings of the X5 vs. the other models?

X5's multi media performance is its weakest link. It gets about alittle under 500 in the SPB benchmark and my X30H gets alittle over 5,000. Now if you are playing mp3s then x5 will do fine but nice high quality videos the X5 just can't handle them. I can play a 640x480 Divx video with a video bitrate of 1500 and running at 24FPS without a frame dropping. With the X5 i am guessing you are 320x240 with video bitrate of 200 running at 24FPS as your max video output without a frame drop. For games the X5 suffers the same problem.

Thanks for the info. So are you saying that a bitrate of 200 @ 24FPS will be the best settings?

Thats all you really need to get a nice picture. Just hoping your X5 can play at that bitrate, wouldn't see why not.
