my vote on PocketMusic ;) coz its easy to use and i can use existing winamp 2.x skins :)

hold down the power button for a few seconds and the screen will dim. repeat the process to rebrighten the screen

I use GSPlayer. I map one of the buttons to toggle the screen off and on.

the x50v has a hold button on the upper left hand corner, which disables the digitizer from any input :) That should prolong the battery life too, since it is not waiting for any input.

you could go into the brightness settings and turn them alllll the way down.

also, by default, the screen dims all the way after a few seconds of not being used.

You don't want to dim the display, you want to turn it off. WMP does this but you have to map a hardware button to the screen toggle function

Agree. Dimming the screen makes a small difference, but turning the screen off is a much better option. That's what you want is software that enables you to toggle the screen off.
