Most players have a mode that does this. I am currently trying Pocket Player, which does.

Yes, just adjust the battery screen display to turn off after 1 min. or search this site for an utility named displayoff

You can also hold down the power button for 5 secs to turn-off the back-light. Just make sure to check the option "Dim/light display using power button" in the Brightness setting screen. Remember, the back-light will remain off until you press and hold the power button for 5 secs.

you can press in the left side "jog dial" (the one that spins), and then press the down arrow button on the front bottom of your axim and it will dim the screen. conversely, if you hold in the "jog dial" and press UP on the button it will make it brighter. this simply changes the settings in the "brightness" section of your axim without having to actually go into the settings.

GSPlayer also turns off the screen. It's amazing how much more battery life you get w/o the display on....

WMP has an option to "toggle" the screen off/on. You can map all of the buttons to do different tasks.

There is a setting under Setting/Power. You can have it set so that the screen will dim after a certain period of time.

Think there has to be a screen toggle function you can map to your button... even the inferior windows medai player has it.

try pocketMVP which plays avi, mpg, mpeg and also plays mp3, ogg and a few others...been awhile since I used it. I now use Betaplayer and Conduits pocketPlayer and encode all my music to ogg using DBPoweramp at 80kbps and am able to fit over 200 on 512sd card.

My vote is also for GSPlayer. :)

I've tried a few others, like PocketMusic, but GSPlayer just seems to be my favorite at this point.

And it's free.

Also try GSFinder+ (also freeware), which is a great file explorer.
