Where to get MP3s?
I'm new to the PDA and the MP3 world. Since my Axim can play MP3s.. I'd like to get some. I've looked at a couple of the MP3 sites, pay like .99 a month for whatever you want... are they good? I know they are not quite legal...
Either way, what are the best places? I also checked out www.mp3.com, looks pretty cool. Being able to buy a CD and then load it in there seems nice, tho I do want to be able to download it to my PC & Axim.
Thanks. :)

I like MP3.com because it gives the chance to hear a lot of groups and music styles that aren't part of the mainstream. Also there are some artists who post their latest on that site as well, so you can download a good selection of music. The good thing about the site is that it's all legal. Don't have to worry about the RIAA police smashing your door down in the middle of the night.
Most of the songs can be downloaded and then stored on the PC or axim.

Cynthia, there are sites like PressPlay, Emusic, and others that will allow you to download music to a device to listen to. Your mileage may vary as not all services have all artists available to them.

That is asking for trouble right there, since it's illegal, I geuss you could argue that it removes the risk of viruses like you get with p2p... but I just get the music legally anyway, usually just in CD form.

This thread is getting a little bit sketchy, I dont want this to turn into a legal or illegal moral or immoral arguement becaue then there will be al lot of hyprocritical and free-speech arguments popping up and there is now way that this problem will ever be solved and no one will ever see the others point of view.
If you want to suggest a way of getting mp3s, do so.
If you don't like someones suggestion post another but dont flame theirs.

Let me clarify my post, so that it is not misconstrued.
The services I mentioned are pay services. They are not free, or illegal.
Just wanted to get that out there.

Audigalaxy, Kazaa...etc. Go to download.com and search p2p, you'll get all the mp3 you want.
Enough said!

Thanks for the info. :) I don't mind paying for the legal stuff, I actually even prefer it. Especially when I'm at work and want some MP3's on my break or so, I'd rather do it within the guidelines of the laws... not worth risking the job. :)
I asked please not to talk about legal issues here.

Edited - I already said no legal or illegal talk here.
I want to... get MP3s by buying the CD and rip it into an MP3 (forgive the lack of correct terminoligy :) ).
So, what is a good CD ripper software program? And how much do they usually cost?
Thanks.

Cynthia, there are a number of tools that can do the job for you.
Windows Media Player is capable of ripping to WMA, and MP3 wit a plugin
RealOne also can rip.
I am a user of MusicMatch Jukebox, and it fills my need for ripping and organizing my MP3s very well. It is free, with better performance from the paid versions.
There are any number of lesser known tools that can give you better quality rips if you want to tweak and play with the files, but for simple rip 'n go type operation, these are the big 3.

There is a program called Audiograbber that I've used for years, its the easiest way to rip a CD straight to MP3 that I ever used.
