getting TV shows onto your PPC

hey all i have a question but i also have some info which may help some of you

1. i too would like to get my tv shows onto my ppc. my question is whether using my DV cam to record them, then upload them to my computer, then convert and and upload to PPC, is a good idea?

2. there is also this great site i found www.thedownloadplace.com which gives you unlimited access to movies, tv shows, games, software, etc for either a 40$ lifetime membership or 1 year for 30 bucks. and i dont mean cheap software i mean stuff like windowsXP... how they do it i dont know and the selection on movies and tv shows is incredable they even have new releases :approve: so if there is some kind of catch that you find please let me know cause it sounds too good to be true but if it is i think i will purchase the lifetime

well i hope this helps some of you!

best thing to do is buy a TV tuner for your PC. This way you get a direct feed of your show onto your PC and then you can compress it in 5 minutes with PocketDivxEncoder and put it on your PPC.

Yup I agree with HighTymes. I regulary record shows on my pc and then convert them using PocketDivXEncoder. However it takes longer than 5 minutes....!

I record shows and movies using my Media Center pc.
I first record the TV show or camcorder input to the pc.
Media Center pcs record in a special format, DVR-MS. Then I convert that file to MPEG2 using a special ripper. Then I use Windows Media Encoder to convert the MPEG2 video to view on the the Axim X30H. Takes me about the same time as the length of the video to convert it all.

I have a PC set up with a PVR250MCE card which records shows in MPEG2 format, then at night recompresses them to WMV format, a 30 min show goes from 980Megs to about 40 megs. Im using BeyondTV, which is an awesome program

Beyond Tv is definitely not free. I just ordered a copy form Amazon.com for $59.99 but there is a $20.00 rebate right now so that will bring it down to $39.99 and the shipping was free.

If you have a TV card in your PC you can also capture the video straight to your PC with Windows Media Encoder using the PPC setting, and then its just a matter of transferring it to your PPC with no further conversions needed.
