Amix Movies Illegal???
What is, and What isn’t legal??
My big question is downloading Divx orMpeg-4 movies off the web legal(kazaa)? Or is just downloading original DVD movies files off the web illegal?
What happens if you do download, if it’s illegal were can you download mainstream videos for my Amix which makes it legal?
I would assume copying my own DVD for Amix use is allowed, how are we to know? This subject is very grey.
If anyone has direction please let me know, yes I’m an ethical Christian and want to make sure I stay within the law.
Thanks

I believe it goes like this - if you own it, you can copy it for your own personal use. So, if you don't own it, then you shouldn't download it.
Make sense?

FYI if you own it, its probably legal if you don't its probably not, however there are hundreds of loopholes and advocates for each sides arguments, there are hundreds of do's and dont's, should and shouldn'ts, the fact is nothing is gonna happen to you either way (in the media scene's current state).
We try to avoid the legal / illegal, religious / etical issues when it comes to all media in this forum, thanks.
However tech questions are thourghly welcome. :D

Respecting the mod's attempt to kill this topic, I do have a related follow-on question that is more technical.
I haven't had the time to try to rip any DVDs at this point so I am not familiar with the software. That being said, I have always been under the impression that unlike CDs, DVDs are actually copy protected (Macrovision???). If this is true, then does the DVD ripping software include some workaround to the security on the disc?
If the answer to the above is yes, then it does pose an interesting conflict between the long-established concept of "fair-use," making copies for personal use, and the Digital Millenium Copyright Act which outlaws the breaking of copy-protection schemes. The DMCA goes so far as to outlaw even the academic discussion of breaking copy-protection...

According to the pinned thread here - http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...&threadid=3970
It appears that the software doesn't unlock the DVD. The author states to open it first with your DVD player software then use the other software to copy it to an AVI.

Interesting...so perhaps it is not breaking the "letter" of the DMCA but likely breaking the "spirit."
I imagine this technical "loophole" is one reason why all of the big corporate content providers are trying to force the tech industry to adopt hardware specs that would lock things up at both the hardware and the software level.
Thanks for the quick reply.
