screen resolution
Have downloaded a few themes. Some of the graphics display terribly. Use Pocket Theme Manager to create themes, using my own photographs.

DPI for computer screens is 72 dpi to 100 dpi most of the time. Something could look great on the PC, then on the Ax it is very disappointing. Usually dithering and/or the jaggies.

Q1. What resolution works with the PPC?

Q2. Is the dithering on the Today themes caused by something other than resolution? Maybe compressed too far?

Q3. Is this quality a problem with all PPC's?

Wasn't expecting the display to match the PC screens, but expected something close, but smaller.

Have you used Microsofts free theme
generator? I've used it a few times and
they always turn out great....

I have Win98, MS product only works with XP.

The themes which don't always turn out well are those downloaded, so I don't know what was used with them.

Does anyone know if a tsk file can be examined somehow, to look at the jpeg. I suspect, given the small size of some tsk files, they are compressed too far to get a small file size.

They look dithered because they are 8bit clut colour, so if you are using jpeg for source, you will have to rely on microsofts 24bpp to 8bit clut, which probably isnt such a good idea
(the axim has a 16bit direct colour screen)

and the screen reolution is 240x320, which sounds low, but for the screen size, its actually pretty good (not the best, but pretty good)

Thanks for the reply.

Could you explain 8 bit clut colour?

Is 8 bit used for any reason besides small file size?

This is my first PPC and was very suprised by the clarity of most graphics, given the small screen.

8 bit clut (clut being Colour Look Up Table, aka Pallette, aka Indexed Colour) is used for a couple of reasons I belive...
A) Reduces file size
B) Some Pocket PC's may not be able to display a 16bit direct colour image.
C) Its limited by the file format (gif)

I'm sure there are lots of plugins and hacks to get 16bit direct colour images onto the today screen.
