Slow playlist cueing
I have a handful of mp3's on my PC that I've been using my wireless connection to listen to on my Axim. With just a small number of mp3's, this worked fine.
Now I've just purchased a 40g external hard-drive, to which I've ripped my entire CD collection. Over 4 days worth of music, about 1600 songs. I've also created a playlist on the root directory that includes every song on the drive. Loading this playlist in WMPlayer or GSPlayer on my Axim takes FOREVER! I think the software is checking that each song in the playlist actually exists where the playlist says it does.
This doesn't make any sense to me! The whole purpose of creating a playlist is so I don't have to index each individual song when I want to listen to them. But that's exactly what the software on the Axim does.
So, somebody tell me, what exactly is the advantage of using a playlist? It doesn't seem to be any better that just telling the Axim to play all the mp3's on the hard-drive, which would mean it would have to recreate the index every time I wanted to play all the music. But it seems to do that anyway, even with the playlist.
Also, is there some software out there that actually trusts the playlist to be accurate, and doesn't re-index all the music before it will play anything?
