Tv video card DVR to PPC?

Hello,

I'm new to the site. Sorry if its been discussed before, but I couldnt find a topic in the search.

I have been looking into purchasing a TV video card for my PC. I saw on for really cheap on a site and thought I'd give it a try.

www.Softwareandstuff.com Has wintv2go for 20 dollars. Its a reputable card. Its OEM so it doesnt come with the box, manual, etc. At that price I think I'll give it a try.

My question is:
I have read the how-to on DVD-PPC. Seems easy enough. Has anyone had experience with converting the output of the tv cards to PPC? I "found" a copy of windvr just laying around on the internet. I've been told that in combo with a tv card, its like having a tivo on your pc. You can pick many types of output for the recording.

Would the encoding process be similar? Anyone tried it? Thought it would be nice to be able to watch my favorite tv shows during boring lectures on campus (dont tell Dad ).

Any comments would be appreciated.

I went ahead and ordered one. My 1gb card should be here Thursday, so I had my video card rushed :)

I couldnt pass up the op to watch viva la bam in econ on Friday ;)

If theres any interest I might even set up a ftp for axim users to grab the weekly shows. I have access to some servers and lots of bandwidth.

Your TV card should come with capture software. Just capture to mpeg, then run it through VirtualDub and encode it to DIVX for your PPC.
I have step by step guides on encoding in my Sig.

My ATI video card's software allows for selection of numerous capture formats.

The simplest is .wmv which results in the best resolution in the smallest size ... no conversion needed with pocket media player 9 in WM2003

After you have used your video capture card software to capture video to MPEG you can then use Windows Media Player 10 to automatically convert and transfer it to your Pocket PC.

Would there be a way to send it to your PPC live? That would be waaaay cool! If that were the case, then I would seriously consider a TV card for my PC.

I have an old ATI All in Wonder 7500 card that I use to record TV shows and I noticed that it has an option to record specifically for use on a handheld PC in an mpeg-4 format. The only problem I found with this default setting, however, is the file size was huge. A 30 minute cartoon was 195mb. Next time I test this, I think I'll record in mpeg mode and try converting it to either Divx with Pocket Divx Encoder or WMV format with Windows Media Encoder.

Yes, Microsoft Windows Media Encoder (Free), supports live broadcasts from TV cards (and other media). You can find it at MS website.

Wow.. now I'm getting excited...

I'll have to test out this card and let everyone know. It normally sales for 129 bucks, but they're tryin to close out these OEM models. For 20 bucks, its worth a shot.

yep as kpduty says, you can set up windows media encoder to directly encode the output from your tv card into about 1000k/s wmv, then you can stream it with WiFi, or possibly even at a hotspot

I've switched from ripping and encoding to "capturing". I simply use Windows Media Encoder and point it to my TV tuner card as input, and attach my DVD player to it. Using the settings from my DVD-to-PPC encoding guide, I end up with movies weighing in at about 60MB per hour of video.

Received the TV card this afternoon. It was pretty much plug and play.

BigDs' step by step was extremely helpfuly and I was able to not only encode the tv shows for future use, but also create a live stream via my wifi network. Was able to set the IR on my axim to control the tv card.

I highly recommend the TV card at that price.

This so rocks ... I "think" I still have an older ATI TV Tuner card. I may have given it away ... I am crossing my fingers big time that I still have it. If not ... I may have to rob the piggy bank for $20.

Live TV to your PPC is just sooo coool.

You guys rock! :approve:
