Restore all default settings, set the audio at whatever (80-96 kps), and set the size of the file at 250.

Then click the box for the "auto" settings.

I've found that FairUse works best when left to its own defaults, with the exception of when you want to encode a series of episodes, such as on a TV Series collection...then don't use "auto" but also make sure your file sizes aren't too large (for PPC purposes, that is). If a normal movie encodes very well at 250MB, and they are usually 1.5 to 2 hours, try 1/2 hour shows at 75MB, and hour shows at 125MB.

Just getting to grips with my X50v, purchased Pocket DVD Wizard - picture quality great but found the sound really substandard even on highest setting.
FU sounds ( although a bit concerned about Choirguy's experience !!! ) but I was keen to continue using Windows Media Player to view my vids. Understand I'll need the codex, but not sure how I'll load these onto my X50v ?
Will I see a reduction in quality/performance using WMP versus BetaPlayer ?

And on a slightly different topic, I've been using my audiovox GSM/GPRS to turn my PPC into a mobile phone - really great, saves carring the phone as well, but occasional the skin freezes either when receiving calls or dialing numbers ... any hints or tips or alternative s/ware that works with the card ??
Cheers DB.

First and foremost, I posted a lengthy edit of the situation at FairUse, and asked the webmaster to forward my comments. To his/her credit, the moderator apologized for their words/actions and had thought that I had posted in another thread, which would explain why they thought I was trying to encode an illegally obtained .avi file.

So, everything is cool in the world of FairUse again. I can wholeheartedly support both the program (which I've never tired of) and the www.dvd-guides.com website for support.

In regards to your concerns of BetaPlayer, don't have any. It's actually a superior video product than WMP.

You'll want to copy your movies to your device using an external card reader, or something like the jump drive trio. DO NOT try to use ActiveSync...it will be an exercise in futility.

And you won't need any codec for the PPC (That's BetaPlayer's function), and you may not for your PC. Try to use the program without first.

Help, hit a problem with my 2nd DVD

just checked last night's 2nd convert, left running overnight, failed during the 1st phase with:

'The DVD could not be converted.
>>>> Unable to read the file, Unable to read from Cache file, Data error (cylic redundancy check).

Anyone had this problem before ?

I haven't yet.

I'd suggest a nice clean reboot of your PC, and a second attempt.

Following a second failure, I'd try a different DVD.

If the problem still persists, it's time to contact www.dvd-guides.com in the FairUse forums.

Music video woahs!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great software. Makes movies easy, but! Am trying to create music videos from a dvd of whole concert.
Tried recording at 30mb 80kbps and keeps crashing right at end.
When recording whole thing all songs are about 28mb. So then tried single songs (in "frame" screen). Forgot to alter setting from 280mb LOL, and got 278mb single songs, gulp. So corrected to 30mb's but now crashes after video/audio ripping!!!!!!!!
Help.

Describe this a bit more for me.

You're encoding an entire DVD at 30MB and at 80kps audio?

For multi-thread encodings, here are some things that I would suggest...

1) make the audio 128kps, after all, it's a concert.
2) make the video 50MB for every 15 minutes of content.
3) Leave all settings default, and do NOT encode automatically.
4) Let the process start, and then select the "threads" you want to encode.
5) Choose the multi-session option that is second from the bottom of the screen.
6) Choose the IVTS video (second choice)
7) Just choose "ok" on the next screen...don't mess with output ratios, audio, or anything. LEAVE IT BE.
8) In the next screen, choose "process all"
9) After the DVD is done encoding, it will return to another selection menu. Just cancel out of that.

Let me know how it works for you.

Thanks Choirguy!
I managed to rip part of an AC/DC concert fine. Here's the problem though.
Does everything as before (i.e. AC/DC concert). I set the frame start/finish (but as it is the last song "GooGoo Dolls Live in Buffalo) I was trying to cut out the end titles so use the "frame bar" manually and check the screen shot to cut right at end titles). All goes well until rendering at the very end of the rip session, then the program generates an error in windows.
I was wondering if there is any code at the end of a DVD like the start and this is doing it? Or maybe the DVD is so new somthing else is stopping the process?
The FU program works so great and have had NO trouble with other concert clips so am bemused by this problem.
Thanks

I'm not going to be of much help here. I'm not one to edit the videos that I'm encoding...I pretty much let FairUse do its thing, and the only time I ever go out of "auto" mode is when I'm encoding something like a tv series to watch on my Axim.

I've done nothing with clipping out the end of an encoding project...maybe you can encode to the full length and then use some other freeware to cut the end off?

I basically want to make sure that people can simply encode a movie with FairUse to watch on their Axim. If people go beyond that, they need to go visit the Afonic forums. (http://www.dvd-guides.com)

Maybe someone can help me here. I Tried to use FU for a movie (Dodgball) leaving the settings on Auto and just telling it to use 80 for the audio and 250 for the size. It went fine, however when I select the file on my computer it causes an error in explorer that causes it to shut down and create an error report. I don't even have to try and play the clip or anything, just highlighting it causes the problem. Any ideas? Thanks~

Adam

*edit* Also, it may be a dumb question, but can someone tell me how I can find out what codex on installed on my computer

Even though you may have current codecs, it doesn't hurt to update. I suggest the K-Lite Codecs, and posted the link in response #10 in this aximsite thread:

Good luck!

Got it to work. Looks pretty good for being 250MB. Now that I have my .avi file I don't need all the others that FU created right? I can delete them and maybe move this .avi to a DVD for backup? Just don't want any extra GB sitting around if I don't need to. Thanks~

Absolutely. Delete everything but the AVI, unless you plan to encode the same thing in the future.
