Cool. Thanks for sharing the tip. I downloaded the software and have created a movie file that I now want to watch on my x50. So, what software do I need to watch the file?
I am a totally newbie to PDA's and to PDA Media, so please tell me exactly what software and plugins I need and where to get them (specific links to the downloads would be awesome). Thanks for your help.

I just set up two computers converting two movies :D. I plan to convert all my fave movies with this, a lot less hassle than faffing around with hundreds of differnt tools.

I've been using FU (Fair Use, that is!) for a little over a month. So far, I've been pleased with it. It tends to use a lot of resources, so if you don't have a very fast processor and a lot of RAM.....
I've been playing around with the settings to find the best combination for quality and size, but have not settled on specific settings yet. Might be nice if those who get a great result would post their settings.
It does take ages, but so does every other method out there :). I have not yet really played with any settings, all I have done is got a basic set up and told it to keep file size to under 500megs. The file it made looks nice , I have it on my 1GB SD card just waiting for christmas day.

Quite true! I've been transferring 44min eps from a TV series and have experimented with files in the 100-150Mb range. They're quite good. ACtually it only takes about an hour to convert each on my computer. Probably rather good compared with some methods.
Can't beat the cost either:approve: I liked it enough to anty up the 10 euros for lifetime downloads of upgrades.
What is the best way to get movies from satelite to a card. I have a pvr on the dish reciever how would I transfer to the computer saved prev recorted shows?
Im not allowed to touch my X50 till x-mas so I cant play with it yet and possibly answer my own questions. I also plan on getting dvds converted too.
So you are saying that the files that you have created play on your Axim or have you just testing them out on your PC ?
I have used this software in the past but the audio codec it used to encode with would not play on the Axim. Video played perfect, just no sound...It played fine on my PC however.

I just tried it with the Matrix. I told it 120MB and I got 3.92GB ?!? Dimensions 702x288.
My goal is to play movies on my x50v, but I always run in landscape with real VGA. Am I using the right settings?
Hey guys, I kind of posted it for a reason :D
Go to the link, make yourself a account, and post in the fourms, UMP "the maker of FU" will be able to help you their.
Thanks for the heads up Tomdon and thanks for the link Tan Killer. :)
Trying this program right now. I'm looking fr a good program right now to convert my files with good quality and decent file size :) Hopefully this one works out good. I'll get back to you guys with my results
I tried fair-use this afternoon. I transferred Austin Powers to a 208mb avi file. It took about 2 hours. Though the quality of the video is lacking but I really like the wizard. Encoding is so much easier than I was using before and best of all it is free!
I first bought DVD to Pocket PC, based on reviews at PocketPC Magazine, at the same time that I bought my Axim X30 (October).
I was impressed, but distressed at the occasional problems with the syncing between voice and video.
So I converted roughly 30 movies to .wmv format.
About that time, I began to read through a lot of Aximsite, learned about BetaPlayer, and found that .wmv files didn't work with BetaPlayer, but then learned about the use of DVD-Shrink and PocketDivXEncoder to make .avi movies.
So I deleted all the .wmv files, and began making .avi files.
The second format was superior, in my opinion, to the first format, running video on settings 10-12, and audio at setting 4.
24 movies were encoded in this format.
Today I tried converting another movei using Fair Use Wizard. It is much slower than either of the two above methods, but at a setting of 250 MB and audio at 80 kps, I feel that I've found the best option yet. Best video and good sound. Considering that the DVD is being compressed to 5% of its original size, it is outstanding overall, except for the time issue.
I turned the first video to the 90 degree setting, which oddly placed it UPSIDE DOWN in the normal BetaPlayer view. I'm re-encoding it now, without that option, and with audio at 75 kps.
I'll let you know what I think.
I'm getting tired of re-encoding these movies, however.
Does the registered copy of Fair Use Wizard allow for faster processing of these files?
