Resolution Question

Hey, ive got my x50v on the way (same as the rest of the world) and it might actually get here at some point so i had some free time so i started going about converting my ripped dvds of 5gb each (for viewing on 32" tele :) and i was using the method in a tutorial on this site by crash someone and it said to select pda in PocketDivxEncoder and it says it shall limit resolution to 320 x 240...surely if i run my x50v at double that it will come out not as good quailty. should i change res of my films to 640 x 480 instead of 320 x 240 instead. i have a 1Gb sd on the way so space is no issue but will it make a great difference in quailty.?

Thanks for you welcome and help.

The link in your sig was the tutorial i mentioned i followed and i what im slightly confused about is when i get to this stage

The next step is to Reformat to smaller size using PocketDiviXEncoder.

A) Fire up PocketDiviXEncoder

B) Choose PDA pre-setup (the second icon, the picture of the PPC)

Now when i click it says resolution will not exceed 320 x 240.

Correct me if im wrong but dosnt the x50v have a 640 x 480 screen?

Shurely this means it will be stretching the image to get on the full screen thus deteriating the quality. and i was wondering. if i put the res to 640 x 480 would the quality be the more perfecet film im looking for or is it just fine as 320 x 240?

Thanks Again.

If you're going to rip to a VGA PPC, you want to go to the 5th device on the menu, the VGA E800 format. That will make the movie 640x480

I'd personally suggest trying this great free program at the same amount of space you were willing to try with PocketDixXEncoder (which is a great program, don't get me wrong).

http://www.fairusewizard.com/lang_en/index.html

So if you were hoping to make a 500 MB movie for your X50, just set FairUse at 500MB, Choose an audio level that makes you happy (say 96), set the program on "auto" (I'm decoding a movie at the moment, so I don't know what the actual choice reads), and then stay out of the OPTIONS area. Then rip the movie.

I think you'll be happy with the results.

Good luck!
