betaplayer not playing wmv

Hi everyone,

I have w2002 on the Axim 5 with the ROM A04 version. I had downloaded the latest betaplayer 0.098 I believed and tried to use it to play wmv files via wireless off my home network. I am getting error of audio and video codec and it is not playing back the video. However for other files (divx, avi, mpeg) it is playing just fine so I know my wireless is working correctly.

Reading throughout the forum I still can't figure out if I need to have the w2003 or not in order to have the lastest betaplayer to play WMV. I do not care for WM Player and like the betaplayer a lot better.

Thank you for the help anyone.

p.s: oh I did downloaded the asf plug in already along with the latest betaplayer

Have you gone into the settings pages and associated Betaplayer with .wmv files?

Yes I did that already Rob in setting and file association right? What do you use may I ask if you want to play wmv file but not using proprietary Microsoft player? and do you have the w2002 or w2003 O.S on your ppc?

I couldn't get Betaplayer with the ast plug in to work on my X3 with w2003. When I loaded the asf plug in, my X3 hard resetted itself (the only time ever). I haven't tried ever since.

asf/wmv hasn't worked in betaplayer for awhile, he is trying to fix it but doesn't know what the problem is.

ah I am not the only one that has this problem, thanks for the reply gentlemen and outch hard reset that is very radical change there I hoped you had your back up done.

now only if Microsoft is not so hard nose with their proprietary format our life would be a whole lot easier, wouldn't it?

This is two different problems. WMA/WMV is not supported with PPC2002 because at that time Windows Media Player didn't had separate usable codecs (just one big exe file). X30 on the other hand uses the latest WMP10 which is just not compatible with BetaPlayer's asf plugin. In time it could be probably solved. (but the hard-reset is very strange)

It's time for you to switch to .avi movie files anyway.

I can't recommend FairUse highly enough...

And the LE version will give you all that you need.
