WMEncoder vs PocketDivxEncoder

After following the guide to using PocketDivxEncoder, I had problems viewing the file on my PC. (I'm still waiting for Dell to send me the Axim x50V that has been delayed) All I get is a blank screen and no volume on WMPlayer 10.

Some of you suggested using WMEncoder and I tried it yesterday and it was awesome to use. Although I have to say that with "fast action" scenes, the picture was alittle pixelated. Once you figure out how to use the settings from the various menu's, it was pretty easy. When selecting the file to encode, remember to list ALL files or else the *.VOB file won't show up. It only list media files like *.WMV, *.AVI, etc

Both programs took a long time to encode. (Using a Sony VAIO 733MHz Pent III), so I'm not sure which is faster.

Either way I would recommend,

Use DVDShrink to get the VOB file (Great program-very easy to use)
then WMEncoder (From microsoft) to encode to a format suitable for display on a PocketPC or email, etc

Merry Christmas to ALL from the frozen land up north. There is actually a town called North Pole, Alaska: www.northpolealaska.com

I use SmartRipper and PocketDivXEncoder to produce .AVI files (both very easy to use)which I view using the superb BetaPlayer. It is a much superior player to WMP (any version) not least because it has a good graphic equaliser and even more importantly, because it lets you adjust Brightness, Contrast and Saturation (color). I find .WMV files viewed using WMP are almost always much too dark and there is nothing to be done about this.

I copy my .AVI files to a 256MB CF card and I get excellent quality playback, even with a 2.5 hour movie. I use 2 pass encoding. I have no problems with speech and video synchronisation.
