playing music on the axim
so i've been loading up my 256 mb (sandisk too..) SD card with MP3s and i realized i cant seem to put much on it if i also have other files and progrmas... so i was curious. whats the best way to play audio on the axim? i was going to try changing everything to .wma, but i love pocket mvp, and it seems to only support mp3s mostly. is there a way to say, compress my mp3s and keep decent quality? or should i use a different program? thanks.

I wouldn't use WMP at all, ya see, the same exact MP3s, if played in Pocket Music, and in WMP, sound far FAR worse in WMP, even at top bit-rate, tested on high quality speakers (as well as in the earbuds I noramlly use)

If you want to store more songs, I'd suggest using a lower bit rate when you rip your MP3s, maybe 128 instead of 160 or 192, if not, you could try switching over to the .ogg format, and winamPAQ or some other ogg-compatibile app to run the thing.

I don't mind my WMP for my WMA at 128kbps. I'm not that picky. besides I just hook up my Axim to my car tape deck and it's fine w/ me.
If you like your PocketMVP, stick with it.

There are some mp3 cmpressors out there. I don't know if this will help.

Hi all,

I get home tonight tonight for the weekend and will have precisely 2 days to get my brand new boxed but charged (thanx wifey - x) Axim working and loaded with mp3s before being away from a computer that will connect with the Ax until easter.

My question is.......does the Ax have the necessary soft/hardware to load and play mp3s straight out of the box or will I need to download progs from the net (don't want to find this out after 10 hours struggle!) to enable this.......I know I will need to download nero and/or jukebox to rip my own cd library, but what about any further file compression for the Ax ??

Thanx all

There are alot of mp3 players out there, I like the Winampaq one, cause it looks like Winamp, get it here http://www.projecteam.org/phpwiki/index.php

Check download.com for cd rippers, there are a million ones to choose from I tend to use dB Poweramp Music converter, it's free, and can also convert betwwen different file formats. Get it Here http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

I second the dbpoweramp
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

Works great and is free. My two favorite combinations.

On crappy little ear buds I can not really hear any differance in MP3 or WMA. so since WMA is usually 1/3 to 1/2 the file size i always use WMA. yeah on a big home system there is a differance, but going down the road on my bike or on the buss in a commute, not one bit will youhear differance

Try using one of those tape adapters for portable CD players. You can actually hear the difference in the car.

If I have a mp3 in 128 kbs, I convert it to .ogg in 96 kbs, sounds exactly the same with earphones on the AX.
