Exclamation Any Audible.com Users, Please read!

Howdy,

If anyone is out there using the Audible player for Pocket PC this may interest you...

I sent Audible.com support an email asking when they were planning on integrating BUTTON MAPPING into the player.

They said they WERE NOT planning on it, and suggested I send a email to greatideas@audible.com .

If anyone else is interested in having these features (or any other for that matter(like MP3 support)) added, PLEASE email them and request it!

Thanks!
-Paul

p.s. I love the audible.com service, it's just the player that sux

I was planning on signing up with them this weekend. So you have to use their propritary player over the Win Media player? I thought you could download their stuff and use it on an MP# player? if not then that sucks, cuz I ride a motorcycle and I do not take the Axim with me on my bike. I have an MP3 player for that. So can I share the same book with my Axim and my MP3?

If not I may just say forgit it and look elsewhere

I am using the the Windows player with the Audible books and it works better then the Audible player did. I just use the audible program to download the books to my Axim. I do not use the Audible player software at all.

How does WMP handle the "chapters" that come in the Audible books, and what about Adding bookmarks? Thats the BEST feature about the Audible player is that it remembers exactly where you left off (I haven't tried WMP).

As to the question of Audible on an MP3 player, you have to have a supported player (list on their site), and it says that you can activate a "limited" number of devices to listen to books on.

Microsoft Reader will play your Audible Audio books and subscriptions. You do need the Audible manager software on your desktop to download and to activate your device. Check out Microsoft Reader help page 109 for details. It will handle your bookmarks and such.

I do wish I could map the buttons in it though, like in WMP. The D pad will fast forward or reverse. But one thing I did do though is to buy "Screen Off" (you can find it at Handango). I mapped it to my home button (which I never use anyway) Now I can turn off the screen without turning off the device, and not have to worry about accidentally tapping the screen and interrupting my listening session.

Alternatively, you could run WMP in the background. You can map volume control and screen toggle in WMP, and control your volume and turn the screen off with buttons while Reader is running in the foreground and WMP in the background.

If any one knows how, between the two programs, I can map play/pause to a button in Microsoft Reader, please let me know.

Also, I don't use Audible Manager to load my books to the device. It takes a v e r y long time. If you have a card reader, you can right click and copy the title in AM after it's downloaded, and paste it onto your CF or SD card when it's in the reader.

now is it true that if you use the Audible stuff you can load just the capters you wish to listen to? I am getting a 256 meg card soon so I guess space shall not be a big differance but still I dont need the whole book on the Axim at one.

I havent played with Audible stuff since my old Win CE 2.0 days. Then you could load a few chapters as it was very much needed mY Philips Nino only had a wopping 16 megs!

It's True...

Yes, you can choose to load just "X" amount onto the player, I'm not sure if it goes by "chapters" or just how much free space you have.

If anyone is interested in trying www.audible.com please feel free to say that you were referred by me. : ) My screen name is ricforney3. I will get a free month of membership if someone that was referred by me stays on for 3 months.

You can purchase books from audible without joining a Listener Plan and still receive discounts off of MSRP, but by becoming a monthly customer you get 1 or 2 book credits depending on your plan that you can use to buy an expensive book.
