right, and the latest pocketdivxencoder lets you use these separate files to encode subtitles into the film, that's why i'm confused what this new version of betaplayer will do that is different. if it can turn the subtitles on and off, that would be cool, because with most of these encoding programs, if you encode the subtitles, you cannot remove them.

Some device have very just 4-5 system volume settings. Example with the Loox720 where even the lowest setting can be sometimes to high. In this case it's very handy.

There is no subtitle support yet, but sooner or later it will be added.

I've installed the latest version, and it's working well
so far.

Subtitle support should be gotten from either ffdshow or mplayer. They both have parsers for all subtitle formats (all 30 or so of them), and believe me, you do NOT want to code all the parsers yourself.

Speaking of new features, GMC is a big leap forward. Do you think you can look at quarter pixel support after that? I've converted 100s of dvd's to divx and i used qpel on them all for extra sharpness, but because of that they won't play in betaplayer. I know that older handhelds were too weak to be able to decompress qpel, but todays PPCs could definitely handle it.

And lastly, the only reason anyone would use PocketTV is because they a) haven't heard of betaplayer, or b) they want to play Mpeg1/2 (video cds).

Mpeg support could be gotten from quite a few opensource projects, and would really round off betaplayer as the best media player.

Best Regards,
Christopher H.

mpeg1 video is already supported in BetaPlayer and mpeg2 video is not supported by any pocketpc player I know of.

I would be satisifed with only sub, srt, smi support and the built in subtitle streams of ogm and mkv :)

Pocket Tv lets you adjust the colors. Betaplayer doesn't.

Did you try 0.096 color settings?

Are you kidding Me! I saw on your forums that you'd have to rebuild the whole thing from scratch to do that. Way to go picard_beta! I never cease to be amazed by your progress.

For software decoding I used only r,g,b offset which is like brightness for the different color components (the multiplier is still the same). But it's different on the X50v with 2700G driver, because there only r,g,b multiplier tuning is possible and no offset adjustment.

I read somewhere on these forums that PocketTV plays Mpeg2. But even if it doesn't, betaplayer is missing Mpeg2 support. Wouldn't libavcodec mpeg decoders implement nicely?

Regarding the subtitles, you should focus on writing a great text renderer and leave the parsing to one of the libraries. They have gone through many revisions and do a perfect job. Why would you go through the pain of reinventing the wheel and making sure that it works? That's what opensource is for! ;)

What's your response regarding Qpel support?

Best Regards,
Christopher H.

Thanks for the great player, however, on the 0.096, when I go to the playlist window and I click on a movie or on the ok button, my screen becomes dark blue (close to black) and I need a soft reset to start it again? I hope that this was not posted before. Thanks again for the player,

Hey,

How would I go about creating a skin for Betaplayer? I'd like to do a skin to get this thing looking great!
