Hi Picard, I liked what I've been reading about BetaPlayer:approve: so I gave it a try. W/O really planning it out this is what I did.

The Quick and dirty, I used DVD Shrink 3.2 to backup "Chronicles Of Riddick" into VOB files. Then I used Nero 6.6 to create an 800mb MP4 file. this is the benchmark. It played damn well. Keep up the good work and let me know if I can do something specific for you.

Back to the user interface I'd like to see an option to manually choose the Fit + percentage in the zoom menu.

mpeg2 is svcd correct? i am a little confused. even with mpeg2 support, most of these files (usually in bin and cue format) are too large anyhow, can't you currently use the mpeg2 files and convert and encode them into a smaller file with something like pocketdivxencoder? why is this mpeg2 support so important?

VCD, SVCD and DVD are all encoded in MPEG2. People who already have a collection of mpeg2 encoded videos would benefit from support even though file sizes are larger than divx/xvid as they can stream the content directly from the PC.

It won't stream from the desktop. Since video playback is so cpu intensive, it impacts the network bandwidth available to Betaplayer.

Most probably, you will have to transfer it to SD/CF card to get it to work. Still, it's better than having to re-encode files.

Anyway, I wish PPCs would start using 802.11g or something, or at least get the processor speed/bus speed fast enough to fully utilize 802.11b speed, and not just 1-2mbps of it :(

Yeah sure okay MPEG-2 great.

But what about 0.096 testing? Forgot about that it seems. How do you like 0.096 from a users point of view?? Are the menus too hard to follow? something other than MPEG-2 bothering you? picard_beta wants to know.

The point is to not HAVE to re-encode. Flash memory sizes are constantly increasing so it'd sure be nice to have support for SVCDs/DVDs even before we have the space to store them. But BTW, I have a lot of little homemade videos that are MPEG-2 format just because I like how it compresses the video slightly with absolutely no loss in visual quality so I can't wait for MPEG-2 support!

I am not sure what you are referring to here. Network bandwidth or CPU usage? The X50v is definitely "strong" enough to decode MPEG2 in real-time. MPEG2 is less CPU-intensive than xvid, and the X50v manages xvid just fine (even in the slowest CPU mode), thanks to the decoder in the 2700G chip. Network bandwidth is another issue. It is possible, if the video is using a high bit rate, that 802.11b is not fast enough, and you will experience occasional "skips" in playback.

I guess you guys don't reallu want that MPEG-2 support after all. If youactually read this thread you'll see he said he'll add it after the bugs in 0.096 are worked out. Help him find the bugs and you'll get support for your precious format. Seems like a good deal to me. No bugs?He needs to know that too.

I reported a tiny UI bug bug before. Other than that, no bugs for me.
