viewing Large .AVI files on PPC2003

Hi everyone, I'm trying to view a ".avi" TV show on my PPC 2003.

It's a 300MB file on my 1GB card. I've tried opening the file with Media Player, PocketMVP, and BetaPlayer and they all give me error messages.

The file successfully opens on my PC, but not responding in the ppc. Any software suggestions or advice??? Thanks, Dave

300MB is not large. Do you know what the codec is? Open properties on your desktop to find out.

It's probably not formatted for PPC.

david maid-Are you using the stable version of betaplayer? If you are try the unstable version. I know it's counter-intuitive but the unstable version works better, it supports more format too!

Betaplayer unstable handles files that play fullscreen on my laptop. It's that good.

HOW ODD?? I had been trying the latest STABLE version of BetaPlayer. That was my problem. Thank you!!! The "unstable" version works brilliantly. Awesome, you're the man!!!

Thanks to All,

Glad to hear that david. Be sure you ply around with betaplayers settings. It seems to default to a square screen in pixel aspect ratio. Change that to 4:3 NTSC if your in the US and all your files will show bigger in landscape. Mess around with the Color controls to. A lot of the stuff I put down to pixelation was cured by changing the contrast and brightness.

I ripped matrix III with fairuse and I simply cannot believe my eyes! If you had asked me 2 years ago I would have said it was impossible to have a crystal clear video experience on a Pocket PC. But now with the X50v, betaplayer and fairuse I wonder why people aren't.

How do you transfer the file to the PPC, do you simply drag it from your PC to your SD card?

I'm trying to drag a 500+MB avi file to my SD card and it just sits there....it may do about 2% and then go back to 0% again.

What settings in fairuse do you use?

I use a card reader for SD at work and at home my laptop has an SD and PCMCIA card readers built in. Card readers are so much faster than Activesync for this kind of thing it's not funny.

How much would a card reader be and how would it connect to the PC/PDA?

We seem to be talking across threads so I'll just do the fairuse settings here. :)

When I use fairuse I let the program decide what settings to use. The only setting I change are the output file size, the project name, and where the trim bars go for widescreen movies. In general I leave the file size at 700MB. I know that's large but I have lots and lots of memory space available because I use 5GB PCMCIA hard drives along with a CF to PCMCIA adapter on my X50v. For long trips I also use a 4 AA battery power extender as these hard drives have moving parts and hence use more power than flash memory. I also use the extended battery all the time so the power extender rarely gets used.

I use an SD reader I bought on Ebay. It cost me $11 including shipping from China. Really nice design, it looks just like a USB "Thumb drive". Using ActiveSync takes FOREVER when tranferring files to an SD card.

When searching on Ebay, use keywords: USB SD

Enjoy, Dave
