Help - DVD to PPC Tutorial by Crash613)
Hello,
I'm using the following aximsite tutorial to attempt to prepare a DVD to play on my X50 which arrives Monday. The link to the tutorial is here: www.aximsite.com/articles/link.php?id215 I figured I'd try this method because I already have and am familiar with Shrink. While I was able to get a movie in the correct format to play on the X50, I did have 1 problem and 1 question. Problem - Following the tutorial, it says at the end that "if the DVD is full screen, then the format is 320*240." This is the default setting and I succesfully did this. The problem is that 95% of my DVD's are widescreen. The tutorial goes on to state "if the DVD is 16:9 then the format is 320*180." The problem is when I go to change the ratio from 320* 240 to 320*180 as soon as the box to do this opens the program immediately shuts down (never fails). Thus, I have only been able to do the widescreen movies at the full screen format. Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone know a fix? I'm using PocketDivXEncoder Version 0.3.50 Question - When using Shrink, when it gets done ripping the files I get the message "Burning did not complete successfully! However all output files were successfully encoded, and they are ready for burning with appropriate DVD burning software. DVD-Video Files Reallocation Failed." Then a whole bunch of technical stuff I won't list here. I just ignored this message figuring it simply was saying it recognized that it failed to write the files to a DVD. Shrink does create the one big VOB file which I then open in PocketDivXEncoder so I figured all must have went fine up to that point. Any thoughts? Again, my main concern is the problem with PocketDivXEncoder closing as described above. Any suggestions to fix this? Thanks a ton for any suggestions! Chris

I've used most of the applications that are available for creating .wmv and .avi files for PPCs, and I've determined that FairUse is the best for me...no-nonsense, simple 1 step operation. Some methods may be faster, but the end encoding just doesn't seem to be as good.
Do these other methods work? YES. Are there problems with every method...probably. With the DVDShrink/PocketDivXEncoder method, I wasn't overly pleased with the quality of rips, even in the 250 MB range. I also experienced "out of phase" situations where mouths didn't match the audio. The longer the originally ripped movie, the worse that problem was. FairUse has fixed those problems...for free. Sure it's not the fastest...but give it a try. I like encoding at 80kps audio and 250MB movie files, and letting it go in "full auto mode." However, I don't mind "bars" on the top and bottom of a widescreen movie. FairUse can be found here (LE version): http://www.fairusewizard.com/lang_en/index.html

Thanks. I actually downloaded Fairuse after reading about it on a thread. IS THERE A TUTORIAL using Fairuse that can guide me through it. I have no problem trying that program at all.
The thread I saw talked about using DVD Decrypter (which I have an I am familiar with) to rip the DVD. It said to set DVD Decrypter to ISO Read mode and rip to the hard drive. Then apparently Fairuse can convert the ripped ISO file to an Xvid avi. format. After that, I'm a bit lost. I'm sure its great and I would love to try it, but some type of step by step tutorial would be wonderul.

Now that I've got the Video Clip ready, from what I read, the next thing I need to do when the X50 arrives Monday is download "Betaplayer 0.95." A thread I found said "Install betaplayer 0.95 with all plugins, making sure your settings are for the 2700g betaplayer plugin. . . Install X50misx and set to your likeness. . . " Does that sound right?

You'd have to check with the X50 owners for more details (or someone will post here) but the most recent version of FairUse is .096 Unstable, with plugins (like the 2700) to match.
You will find them at: http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/

I have finally decided to try out Fair Use and now I have gotten to a screen and not sure what to do. It says: The DVD could not be converted. Could not open codec. What do I do now?
Thank You in advanced | |||||

I guess I'd ask if you have either the DivX or Xvid codecs installed on your PC?
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm Install these Codecs and see if that resolves the problem.

Thank You Choirguy. That must be the answer. When I got up this morning I started looking around and saw that you have answered this question a number of times in other areas. I am going through the process now and have 92% left of the cideo so I will see if that is the problem or not.
Thank You | |||||
