I'm thinking bout buying a Axim 300mhz,
Can it play videos ?
Whats the difference between that and the 400mhx one?

100 Mhz!

Basically the 300 Mhz has a slower processor clock speed (but the Axim uses variable speeds while running to save power, so a 400 Mhz isn't always running at 400 Mhz).
The slower clock speed comes into play when you do things that need a lot of power; like playing games that need to draw a lot, like quake; like watching movies, but this may only be noticable when loading or with high frame rate movies.

Basically, search the Axim site for the particular types of apps (like the movie player), and see what others using a 300 Mhz say about the performance. You can also just serach for performance, or 300.

Also, the 300 Mhz has less memory; but you will probably be getting some memory cards for your Axim.

hitman2k3,

I recently started dabbling with video on my Axim and I've not had any problems using my 300 Mhz machine. I do have a 128M CF card to which I store the video, but no performance problems.

The device did stutter badly when I tried running a full 29.97 frames/sec video through PocketMVP, but I read somewhere that fps over 15 were tough to achieve on any pocket device.

If you follow the instructions provided by fibrzo you should have no trouble running video on a 300 Mhx device. So I wouldn't use video as the driver for purchasing the "advanced" version.

Especially as I own a 300mhz model and run it at 400mhz... the main constraint seems to be bus speed and bandwidth, not CPU speed... I haven't heard of a video running significantly better on a 400mhz model than a 300mhz model... I do wish I had more flash ram, but I would never store videos in memory... (since my recent encode of the 2 towers was 480mb..)
