Viewing mpg. files

When I'm surfing wirelessly away from home and I download a file/clip (mpg) from a site to CF card. How can I view it on my Axim without encoding it. Windows Media player does not recognize when it searches and BetaPlayer does not play it either. If I plug the card in a card reader I can play with WMP on my Desktop. How do I play it with the mobile media player?/
Thanks.

It does not for me, where do I set it to Play mpg. I use beta player to play other files but it does not see the mpg. file.

I've had the same issue. Beta Player has given me errors about not supporting Mpeg 2 when I try to play certain files. I thought it could play all Mpeg but I guess not.

If you don't want to load another player you can use PocketDivxEncoder to encode the mpg to an avi file.

I know, but I'm away from a desktop.

down load the latest "unstable" version of betaplayer. It plays mpg's. The stable version does not.

Unstable and stable are merely nomenclatures used by the Linux community. Another common method is to name all the unstable builds as odd version numbers and stable ones as even numbers.

The word unstable and stable do not reflect how well the program actually runs. Stable merely means it has been extensively tested and should run without issue. Unstable means that it hasn't been thoroughly tested and although it should run fine, there's always the chance it'll freeze your machine or make it catch on fire, though very unlikely.

Yes, I was confused at first too when I started to get into Linux.

Well, I have the latest unstable and the new stable versions and they still don't like some of my Mpegs. It may just be a voodoo curse on my axim , but I'll see if I can figure this out.

Will PocketDivxEncoder convert Quicktime files to AVI?

I really want a way (free way, that is) to play Quicktime .mov files on my Axim - whether it is a stand alone player or a way to convert them on my desktop...

Now I stand corrected. It worked for the file I downloaded before onto the CF cards (it plays that mpg. file) Now when I'm on a page and I click on a link (which I'm sure is a mpg. file)I get a whole bunch gibberish (to me) and I am not able to download the clip. It seems to be a problem with the BetaPlayer (096 unstable)integration with PIE. Can anyone help me get around this issue.

My goal is to, while surfing wirelessly, when I click on a link for a mpg. file, how can I view it? whether I have to download it or not.(at this point I have no access to a desktop/laptop.
