I am sure that all of ya'll of tired of seeing my name but hey, I put a funny cat pic up! Anyway, Finally downloaded a movie sucessfully, however, the sound was not there. It started fine but after 5 seconds, said "player:buffer size too small for this media. try increase it in player settings dialog for better playback" when I did, the sound completely went away. Any one seen this before?

Hmmm, ztoddman1 I don't know what that's about, I've never heard that one, try PMing Bradish and maybe he might know, I've never encountered that problem.

Seanz0rz, why don't you try and using Pocket DivX Encoder to compress that file. Depending on the quality of the ripped DVD, you might get a cheap 100MB file or not. Pocket DivX Encoder allows you to choose the filesize you want. Just google it, it's free (and make sure to pick VGA for better quality, although bigger size)

For those wondering what size to make your movie files Gokuu Elemental got me playing with bitrate calculators.
Here is a list of what is out there.
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/...ml#calculators
I got xvidbitcalc to try since I use the xvid codec
Maybe we can pool our experiences and come up with a good bitrate to use for both 320x and 640x Axim's.
It seems the movies I have done come out in the 425 to 450 bitrate range. To me they look pretty darn good.

Well, I guess it just depends on what you like. You are still going to be held back by the original bitrate. For instance, I have episodes of Family Guy that are original 640x480 and the Bitrate is 903, while the audio is 132kbps VBR. (I saw this using Pocket DivX Encoder and looking at the properties of the file) The 640x480 resolution is good because it's really no change from computer to PPC. ANYWAYS, the original bitrate is 903, I saw no need to go higher, so I put the bitrate at 906, 640x480 resolution, 192kbps Stereo audio and the file size is 178MB total. It looks pretty flawless, the picture is waaayyy better than 320x240. Honestly, it's like comparing TV with Satellite. It's a whole lot clearer, I'm glad got an Axim x50v.

Edit: Oh yeah, 178MB is really big for a 22 minute and 23 second video.

Ok, someone plesae heldp. I'm converting the movie ROUNDERS and its about a 2 hour long movie.

For some reason, it is taking way too long to do its thing compared to what I'm hearing from the rest of you. It does a comp test and then a 1st pass which takes about 3 hours and now its on its 2nd pass which is taking another almost 4 hours.

Why is it taking me 7 hours to do this movie. I'm setting the file for 475 in size and using 640 for the resolution. Now, I am on a FAT32 File system and had to break the file down into 1 Gib pieces when using DVD Decript.

Where am I going wrong?

Here is the log"

My 2 cents,

Drop the coin on an extra HD. Hard drive memory is cheap.... real cheap. Forget about the FAT and FAT32 limitations, format the new drive with NTFS and get busy/focused on your objectives. I'm as guilty as the next guy for trying to do stuff "on the cheap", but the bottom-line truth is... you get what you pay for. The result is... you get what you paid for.

Less than 512 megs of ram will slow things down. 1gig is even better.
Got to have lots of hd space for temp files too. Use NTFS. Having several partitions cuts down on hd fragmenting.
CPU's, system bus and memory speeds make a big difference. The faster the better. Video encoding is one of the things benchmarked when comparing new systems because it will really put a load on it. Just look at motherboard and cpu reviews at http://www.tomshardware.com/index.html

BINGO. AGK uses processor power like its cheap toliet paper. 512MB of ram is sufficent, as always more is better, but both my desktop and laptop have 512 and complete the process in about 3 hours, so that is not a nessisity. (Both 2.8's, the laptop is HT) I believe that it is most definetly your processor that is holding you back on this one.

Other than it being wicked slow, you did successfully complete the rendering though right?

I have a Athlon 64 1.4ghz with 256mb DDR RAM and it takes me about 5 or six hours usually. On one DVD though, it took a total of 8 and I couldn't get the audio to work, so I had to retry it a total of 3 TIMES!!! It was annoying, but I just leave it on overnight, but hopefully a new laptop will take care of that. My movies almost always render correctly.
