Other than it being wicked slow, you did successfully complete the rendering though right?

Yes, everything was a success. I'm watching Rounders now on my X50v. Great audio and video. I also toyed around with PocketDVD last ngiht and I like it as well. A little faster and the files are smaller using the Divx format. I must say the end result on both are nice.

Thanks for your tutorial. Much appreciated.

Not sure if it will make much of a noticeable different but, I think I read somewhere that there was an option to throw more muscle at it (give the job all of the processor power to do its thing). I think next time I will do that.

I think that might depend on the program, for instance I know you can do that in Pocket DivX Encoder, just set the encoding to "Highest" status and you can't do much on your PC, but it will speed up the operation by a little bit. Was it AutoGK that gave you that option?

Also, what program were you using? You said PocketDVD, was it just "PocketDVD" or "PocketDVD studio"? I've downloaded a trial of that program and wanted to try it out and see how it works, it was recommended to me by someone else in order to resize the video to 320x320 for my friends that have Palm's.

Yes, AutoGK does have the option. PocketDVD doesnt have it as far a I know. I havent tried Studio yet.

Also, I'm using 640 for resolution instead of 320 since I'm running my movies on a X50v and I'm using BetaPlayer for viewing.

Yeah, I always use 640x320 since the x50v has the 3.7" screen with that resolution, so it's no problem. However, all my friends have Palm's and they still have the 320x240 resolution. You have to change it a little bit, because all Palm's have the graffiti on the bottom, it cuts away from the screen. So, really, a Palm screen is 320x320 and it's pretty dumb, so that's why I would need to use that resolution to encode videos for them.

Really? That's interesting, I've been trying to update my Axim x50v to the ROM A03 update and the only thing that I can come up with that is preventing it from working is a virus or spyware... Hmm, looks like I'm going to run a spyware program like Spybot or something and check it out, can't do it until next month though because I don't have the internet at my house.

I specified 475mb for Saving Private Ryan, and it made it into almost 700mb! Plus, the picture was rather poor compared to my previous efforts. My first two attempts with this tutorial resulted in very high quality and under 500mb. Can't figure out why this particular movie is turning out funny. My second question... I am using a Windows XP laptop, 1.5Ghz, and it takes me about an hour for the first step to .VOB, and several hours to finish the movie. I guess I need a faster machine.
I've been using DVD Decrypter for quite sometime on my 1.5Ghz Centrino notebook running WinXP and it usually takes less than 20 mins. to rip an entire regular DVD movie (first step to .VOB) and ready to go either for long flight or road trip. I haven't tried converting and encoding into another format though as I like watching movies from a reasonable 15.4 Hi-Def Widescreen of the laptop itself.

At any rate excellent detailed tutorial Bradish, just employing the first step you outlined, I can now get an entire movie in English instead of having to contend with a good portion of it in French either at the beginning or at the end. I can only guess now it's the IFO Mode setting that made the difference. And yes, I will try the subsequent steps when I get a decent sized flash memory card.

I also wanted to mention this! My AVS stopped and warned me of such adware right in the middle of installation.

Arg this makes me so angry. Why did they have to ruin a perfectly good program with spyware. I'm sorry for the inconvienence to everyone. When I started using AGK it had no such spyware.

Do you know which version of AGK started installing spyware? I like AGK since it gives great results and I can que up a bunch of movies to convert.

I was thinking of sticking with the last clean version of AGK.

OK. Now, is it worth going back to ver. 1.84 (which probably had bugs that were fixed in subsequent versions) or downloading the latest version and removing the spyware (if possible) or chucking AGK altogether and using a different method / software to create the avi files?

Sorry for the long-winded question. :)
