When I goto the website for Auto Gordian Knot to download it says access is forbidden. Am I going to the wrong site or something? I would like to download this program. Thanks

You probably have Norton Internet Security installed and it won't let you get past the download without a web browser that sends a refferer back to the site. Just Disable NIS for the duration of the download.

Thanks for taking the time to write a very clear tutorial!
Have you tried PocketDIVxEncoder? How does it compare with AutoGordian?

Thank you. I have tried P.D.E. and found that it took longer, and the was not as good of quality even having comparable size in MB. Its definetly not a bad program, but I find I like the customization with AutoGordian Knot better.

Thanks for helping him out. He isn't the first person to be baffled at this. In fact someone just PM'ed me about a forbidden error, so I'll make sure to update my post.

Well, I'm sure thats a big part of it. I am getting a new desktop soon, and I am sure it will be much faster. As for my DVD speed on my laptop, I don't know the actual speed of the drive, but when it is reading during the rip best rate is 4x. Usually its between 1.7x and 2.5x. Glad to know its probably the movie (Saving Pvt Ryan). The two others I did look amazing.

I know all movies are different. What difference is there between having the move fit in 245MB vs. 500MB. Also, I understand the force fit on the WS . My question is: What is the best way to handle a movie that is in WS to being with? I cannot get my movies to fill the entire screen. I have followed your setup. Thank you.

Bradish, I noticed your method does not take into account sizing and cropping of anamorphic widescreen sources (at least not that I read). How do you compensate for 2.35:1 aspect?

I use Auto GK as well, and prefer it over fairuse and DVD2PPC.

In answer to the last two questions: Only a fullscreen movie will fill your screen, since the aspect ratio of the PDA when held sideways is exactly the same as a normal TV. (My Axim is 3"x2.25" and 3/2.25 = 4/3 = 1.33333...) Widesreen movies are 1.85 or 2.35, so you will have bars like you do on a non widescreen TV when watching WS movies.

As for the processing ofwidescreen movies AutoGK leaves them in the ratio they were in, just clipping the bars at the top and bottom to save space. It really is a very automtic process, and I have found the results to be of amazing quality, not only on my PDA, but also on my Philips DVP642 DVD player.

Any advice on getting subtitles to show? I see there is an additional program required--WINRAR. Never heard of it. Have you tried using it?

Thanks,

I don't think winrar has anything to do with sub-titles in a movie. It's a utility for unzipping compressed files, like win-zip, only with more features.

If you install GK and then AGK you have everything you need to get the subs in, provided they are on the source.

Wow!, I just did it and the subtitles show just fine. I didn't need WinRAR. It's beautiful! It took "only" 12 hours to encode on my Pentium III 800 machine. :)

I would HIGHLY suggest getting the update to the newest beta. Mainly because it adds (actually all versions past 1.84 or something add it) the hidden menu. Press cntrl-f9 and you get to a hidden menu with lots more options. I've had problems with the AGK not adjusting the Aspect ratio correctly and I could fix it there with the manual cropping. The latest version also corrects issues with filesizes not being exact.
