Fairuse LE converted DVD to AVI instead of Divx or XviD

Hello:

I am very confused. I downloaded Fairuse LE and convert my DVD to supposely XviD but after 12 hours of running FU LE gave me a 700+mb file in AVI format. What am I doing wrong? I have an IBM 800mhz on Window XP. Hope to hear from some expert as to why so long and wrong format? Many thanks

That is not wrong. Is is a XviD encoded avi file. You will be able to play it on your PPC using either PocketMVP or Betaplayer.

Thank you for the tip. One more question please, should it took 12 hours? Is it because of the slow speed of my laptop? Many thanks

12 hours is a long time. But yes, it is probably due to the slow speed of your laptop.

I can do the whole process on my laptop for a movie encoded to 230MB in three hours. Though mine is a 2.2Ghz. It most likely also has a faster FSB and HD.

Are you doing anything while FairUse is working? It is best to just let it be to make sure it is done faster and you will be less likely to have any skipping or audio issues.

I will let mine get through the ripping process, then set it up for the encoding when I am going to bed.

Once again thank you so much for your expert assistance. To answer your question - no I did not do anything. I just let the app runs all by itself.

I guess if I want to do more of this stuff, time to invest in a faster machine.

Thank you.

Old thread but info for future readers - I just use my video/mp3 player and record it onto that. So it records in realtime and I get a file in the time it takes the movie to play. I have an archos av320. Oh yes and it takes care on copy protection too :-)

Quan - I have a 3ghz PC and it takes a while this is because I use 2 pass encoding and have it set to as near VGA resolution as possible with a high sound quality and for best results I allow about 100mb per 30 mins of film. Check your settings - I have one that took 18hrs because I left it running overnight and forgot to check the settings :-)

I have been told that a free package called DVD Shrink does a good job and may be quicker
