Playing Midi files

Just purchased my Dell x50v. I'm a newbee when it comes to pocket pc. Any suggestions on what I should do first

My first problem:

I have polyphonic files saved but when i click on the file (*.mid), it says that I have to click on the program first. I click Windows Media Player (I believe I have WM 10 installed already) but it won't show my files even if I am on the right folder.

Windows Media Player doesn't play midi files.

There are two (IMVHO) very good free midi players for Pocket PC.

One is GS Midi Player.

You can download it from PDA Musician. **IMPORTANT**

Follow their directions exactly!!!

The second choice is the one I am currently using - and am extremely happy with because when I visit midi sites on the web - it plays the midi files just like in Win XP.....the player doesn't pop up...if you choose another midi file to play while the first file is still playing - this player stops the first and immediately begins playing the second. It is great!!!

The file name is Mid Play. Unfortunately the website is in another language.....but I finally figured it out.

I have a zipfile if you would like it - let me know and I will send it to you.

Yes...you are both right. That is it.

Once you install it....click on the actual player and you get options.....it won't look like the one you thought you installed.....go to Play Mode and juct click the down arrow ...then close the box......then the player will look as you wish.
Under Configure player from the menu you get by clicking on the icon in the lower task bar - "Set Link" and choose all four file types.....then choose Mode - Iconplay.

That's it...It will work faultlessly after that.

These are the five files you need to put in ONE folder:

MIDPLAY.exe - the main Body
qmhq+.mpf - the sound font
The skin files (whatever skin you downloaded):
xp_like.ini
xpbtn.bmp
xpface.bmp

Put all these in one folder and copy that folder anywhere you like on your Pocket PC (mine is on my storage card)

Via file explorer or whatever you use - go to that folder and click on MidPlay.exe.

The player will pop up. (you might have to close the file explorer to see it on main screen.)

that should do it.

The best midi player is GS Player Midi located here:
http://freeusoft.attack.ru/gsplayer_...hes_big_5m.zip
Just unzip and paste into you pocket pc. Here are a few good sample songs to play with it as well:
http://freeusoft.attack.ru/gsplayer_...collection.zip
If your having trouble accessing these two files check out the site it's on... grab at the bottom of the page
"gsplayer_midi_1.16_eng_patches_big_5m.zip (3177 кб)"
This plays all my midis with the best audio quality possible...
surround, stereo, antialiasing, 16bit...
Oh... don't forget in the options menu, in the "Cfg file" delete the "/" (or is it this- "\") from it. You should get your sound then...
