Sounds like you don't have the correct codecs installed. Go here for the Divx codec and here for the xvid codec.

You can also check out something called GSpot it is a utility that tells you what codecs you have and what ones you need.

Let us know if you need anything else.

On the same subject - although I got it to work, the divx button got grey out and can only select xvid. Is it because I need to buy the full version vs the LE one? Hope to hear from some expert. Many thanks

You should try reinstalling the Divx Codec, the only reason I can think of for that option to be greyed out is if the codec is not installed..

That is correct. Mine looked the same way untill I installed the divx codec.

I would go with XviD anyway. For me XviD is substantially faster and gets better quality results.

From Fairuse FAQ:
"What is the best codec between XviD and DivX ?
The embedded XviD codec is much powerful than DivX, in term of quality as in terms of speed (with equivalent settings). That's the reason why the XviD codec is embedded in FairUse, while DivX is optionnal and has to be installed separatly."

I also use the XviD codec. But when I first installed the program I got the same error untill I installed the DivX one as well. Crazy?
