Why are my dixv files choppy in betaplayer?

I haven't been able to get divx movies to play smoothly in betaplayer for a few weeks now. Previously, they all played great. Now the audio works great, but the video is really choppy. I haven't installed any new apps or changed any settings that I know of. Anyone else have this problem?

I have an X30H, with processor set to max. Files are stored on my 1gb lexar SD card which has worked flawlessly.

Thanks,
Kris

Hi Kris, I bet if you ran a benchmark and posted the results here one of the many fans of BetaPlayer, myself included could tell you what's wrong.

Just for a starter I'd like to know what resolution the file was encoded at.

Thanks for the advice. What is the benchmark app of choice??

Most of my files are 640x352 (I didn't encode them). I know, not ideal for my axim, but I never seemed to have problems in the past.

Your processor is working overtime to fit that resolution to your screen. Make sure any other programs are closed and allocate more program than storage memory. That should help some.

BetaPlayer has a built in benchmarker. It will even generate a .txt file for you. Open BetaPlayer click on File > Benchmark.

Honestly, I'd lower the resolution a little bit. It's worth it when you can run your videos on powersave mode! :)

Try encoding at 15 Frames per sec. This is what I do and it always gives faultless flicker and jerk free viewing, even at the highest possible VGA resolution. I use 2 pass encoding.

My settings for the very best possible VGA 640 x 480 .AVI files are :-

Video Quality 199 = 2,866 kbps
Audio Quality 10 = 224 kbps

This gives a .AVI file size of 845 MB for a 50 minute DVD clip. Far too big for a full length movie,of course, but I did it to see the ultimate quality obtainable. All I can say is that it was totally perfect - as good as any DVD player and better than most. :approve:

It wouldn't hurt to defrag your sd card every now and then. Especially if you move a lot of files back and forth.
