Lost file association for WMP10:

Well, I installed BetaPlayer, tried it out... uninstalled it.

Then I tried the PictCinema (or whatever it's called) and then uninstalled that.

I liked BetaPlayer so I reinstalled that... but now I lost my file association with WMVs to WMP10 (because I guess BetaPlayer doesn't handle those). Everything else works fine with BetaPlayer (except .mov and .qt files, I guess it doesn't play those either) but now *.wmv files come up with the generic windows icon and aren't associated to WMP10 anymore.

Anyway to fix that without doing a hard reset???

Well, I did a hard reset and then restored a backup... still same thing. :( Please don't tell me that I have to do a hard reset and then reinstall everything from scratch... that would suck.

A hard reset and restore did not help because you just restored back the problem. I just had a look in WMP but could not find anywhere to modify file associations. Unless someone knows of a registry hack, you may really need to do a hard reset without a restore to get it back. However, one way around this may be to open files in File Explorer, then when it prompts to choose a program with which to open, choose WMP.

Moved to Multimedia.

I wound up just backing up my DBs and then doing a hard reset. Fixed it, then had an issue with an unknown netowrk card in slot 2 or something strange... did another restore (that I made after reinstalling everything) and fixed that.

Whew... never had so many problems all of a sudden. :D
