N00B movie encoding question

For those of you with the x50v, do you have any performance issues running movine in 640x480?

The reason I ask is I am starting to dabble at encoding some movies and, while I don't know all the tricks to make the movies look spectacular with a small file size, I can say that I have spent the last 18+ hours converting all of 2 movies. Since my desktop is only a 2Ghz with 768MB RAM, it takes a LONG time to encode and I don't want to waste anymore time reducing to 640x480 if there might be performance issues.

Thanks.

I should also add that my target bit rate is approx 800-1200kbs and I am running off of an SD card.

What are you using to re-encode? Have you tried FairUse? It's a free, one-step option which will significantly reduce re-encoding time for you. Also, many people use Betaplayer for VGA playback. Do a search here and/or Google for download links (I'm on mobile.)

Moved to Multimedia.

That bitrate seems ridiculously high for a pocket PC movie. I did Hair with fairuse and let it pick everything but file size (480MB) and betaplayer reports the Data bit rate at 96kbp/s.

I agree with Don't Panic on this one! Most of my vids are in the 100-128kb range for bitrate and they are quite good in quality.

Really? I'll look into FairUse. The bitrate quoted above is for video+audio. I was encoding with the following:

Used DVD2AVI to convert VOB to MPG (approx 1GB)
Used TMPGEnc to make final adjustments (final approx 800Mb)
640x3XX (whatever widescreen format was)
96kbs stereo
Beta PLayer for playback
