betaplayer and mpeg4

Hi
I just ordered a x50v and am not sure which media players supports mpeg4 playback. MPEG 4 is my preferred video codec.

Second that. Downloaded files play great. There are some great samples at the Prelinger Archive.

Do you rip your own files?

If so what program do you use?

Rip em with FairUse, play em with Betaplayer. Streaming ripped video from my PC to the Ax works flawless as well. Good stuff.

Fairuse produces .avi's. I'm looking for an MPEG-4 convertor.

Nero ReCode is the best MPEG-4 convertor.

So that will let me take an Xvid or DivX file and turn it into an MPEG-4?

AVI is a generic file type on Windows for Audio/Video file. An avi can contain MPEG2 or 4 or any other video format as I understand it. Fairuse is supposed to encode with XVID from the download although on my machine it couldn't find the codec - maybe you have to buy a copy for that - so I used DIVX codec already on my machine - the file type was AVI but it was divx....

I follow you slasher. I want the file extentension of the end product to be mp4. Just like this show from the Prelinger Archive.

When discussing MPEG-4, keep in mind that there are older non-standard versions (e.g. xVid, DivX) and the newer H.264 AVC (Advanced Video Coding) standard - also known as MPEG-4 Part 10. H.264 is technically the best available encoder and was chosen for the upcoming Bluray and HD-DVD standard. Nero ReCode2 can create AVC MPEG-4 files and the result is simply amazing at low bitrates. Unfortunately, the only AVC-compatable player for PPC is Nero ShowTime Mobile (which is in early beta right now).

So VP what do you think that show at the Prelinger Archive I linked to was created with?

BetaPlayer reports these properties;

Format: MPEG4 files (MP4,3GP,M4A)
Video Stream: MP4V
Codec: MPEG4 DivX/XviD
AudioStream AAC0
Codec: LibFAAD LC,HE,PS AAC

WinAVI will do that for you. One of the better vid converting programs I've used.

I use Microsoft MPEG-4 (v2,V3) and encode with Flaskmpeg right now, and hope to be able to use this combo with my x50v(which was ordered on Mar.13/shiped Mar.16 and is in transit somewhere now).I hope BetaPlayer plays this mpeg/avi combo.

BetaPlayer doesn't support MS-MPEG4-1 and MS-MPEG4-2 (both outdated formats). It only supports MS-MPEG4-3 (DivX3) and ISO MPEG4 (DivX5,XviD).
