Problmes with WAV files.

I just download a few WAVs to my x50v. I can see them in the file viewer and when i click on them the stop and atart buttons appear for the player but nothing happens. The file sizes look about
right.

I can play them on my PC with no problems.

What's up here?

Hi. Those WAVs are encoded as MPEG Layer-3. WMP10 cannot decode this format. Use Betaplayer.

As victorypoint said those files use MPEG-3 compression which should not be confused with MP3 which WMP10 for Pocket PC plays very well.

From Wikipedia:
"MPEG-3 is the designation for a group of audio and video coding standards agreed upon by MPEG (Motion Pictures Coding Experts Group). MPEG-3 was designed to handle HDTV signals in the range of 20-40Mbps.

It was soon discovered that similar results could be obtained through slight modifications to the MPEG-2 standard. Shortly thereafter, work on MPEG-3 was discontinued.

MPEG-3 should not be confused with MPEG-1 Layer 3, commonly referred to as MP3."

Microsoft in all it's wisodm choose not to support a wide variety of formats with WMP10 for Pocket PC that the WMP10 desktop can.

One other thing. a .wav file is just a container extension. The actual audio codec can be many different things. Windows Mobile plays PCM .wav files very well.

So bottom line... Use BetaPlayer to listen to the .wav's on that page.

What's the difference and how can I tell that it's an acceptable AXIM WAV file?

When the files are on your PC right click on one of them and choose properties, click the Summary tab then the Advanced button, If the Audio Format is anything other than PCM then the builtin player will not play it.

Use Betaplayer!

Don't Panic!: Please dont confuse things more, MPEG-3 has nothing to do with what is being discussed here.
